Formed in Richmond, Virginia, Thrash Metal Crossover party dudes Municipal Waste rose from the salty remains of a New Years Eve Keg Party in 2000/2001, in which they were later blamed for inciting a minor riot. MUNICIPAL WASTE have uncompromisingly stuck to their guns for over 20 years as the hard-partying and even harder-hitting torchbearers of 21st Century Crossover Thrash Metal. After staggering on to the scene with their 2003 debut album Waste ‘Em All, MUNICIPAL WASTEhave transformed from a cult favourite into metal mainstays for a generation by reviving the Thrash scene.

MUNICIPAL WASTE are 7 albums (and a string of EP’s) deep into a career that shows no slowing down, no matter how hard they party, in fact if anything their career is on an upward trajectory! Metal Hammer christened 2007’s The Art of Partying one of “The 50 Greatest Thrash Metal Albums Ever,” whilst 2017’s Slime and Punishment crashed in the Top 3 of the Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart, while they have also sold-out countless shows on multiple continents and piled up tens of millions of streams in the process.

Tony Foresta [vocals], Ryan Waste [guitar], Philip “Landphil” Hall [bass], Dave Witte [drums], and Nick Poulos [guitar] promise to deliver an uncompromising, beer drenched, sweat inducing, high-octane audio-visual extravaganza while their relentless riffage, infectious energy will ensure the pit is whipped into a frenzy!

“We hope you walk away with some bloody ears, blown speakers, pi*sed off parents, black eyes, and a healthy distrust of authority,” says Tony.

Australian fans will be able to shake off the Winter blues and jump head-first into one of the year’s biggest parties as MUNICPAL WASTE heat up Australia in July! Cheers!

Ocean Grove Showcase New Single ‘FLY AWAY’ & Announce New Label Home. Touring With Polaris This Winter

OCEAN GROVE
SHOWCASE NEW SINGLE ‘FLY AWAY’
AND ANNOUNCE NEW LABEL HOME

TOURING WITH POLARIS THIS WINTER

Today a new chapter rises for the electrifying Melbourne heavy trio Ocean Grove, with the band announcing the launch of their very own label, ODDWORLD Records, as well as their signing to SharpTone Records outside of Australia & New Zealand.

“We’re very pumped to be joining the SharpTone Records family,” shares vocalist Dale Tanner. “We feel more ready than ever to represent a label of their calibre and are so grateful for their confidence in us. In return, we hope to bring a fresh and unique sound to their roster as they take The Oddworld global.”

Accompanying the group signing to their own label and SharpTone Records, Ocean Grove have also today unleashed a sonic sucker punch in the form of a brand new single FLY AWAY with the trio returning to their salient nu metal traditions.

A blistering concoction of downtuned verses, thunderous grooves, rap vocals and 90s-level grit, FLY AWAY is an instant Oddworld masterpiece ready to whip you into a palpitating frenzy.

“FLY AWAY is a return to our sonic roots and the definitive OG sound,” shares Tanner of the latest OG track. “With an injection of fresh energy and experimentation, the song primes the new era of Ocean Grove with a hard and heavy edge.”

An electrifying force in the realms of heavy music, Ocean Grove fuse nu metal, hardcore and alternative rock into a sound like no other; a sound that is entirely and wholeheartedly Oddworld Music.

Comprising an eclectic trio of misfits, vocalist Dale Tanner, bassist/vocalist Twiggy Hunter and drummer/producer Sam Bassal, Ocean Grove have evolved into a global force to be reckoned with, with their unique talents and a shared passion for inventive thinking turning heads and pushing against uninspired standards and musical norms.

From their 2017 debut album The Rhapsody Tapes, which debuted at #5 on the ARIA Charts, through to their sophomore 2020 release Flip Phone Fantasy and 2022’s Up In The Air Forever, both also landing in the ARIA Charts top 10, Ocean Grove have cultivated resounding acclaim for their groundbreaking craftsmanship and fearless experimentation, as well as their unwavering connection to their legion of fans.

Brandishing influences that span Korn, N.E.R.D., and Faith No More, Ocean Grove have never been ones afraid to think outside the box, with their unforgettable creations finding them in hot demand with tours alongside Limp Bizkit, August Burns Red, Crossfaith, and Don Broco, and appearances at the likes of Download Festival Australia, Good Things Festival and UNIFY Gathering.

A multifaceted light at the forefront of the alternative music scene, Ocean Grove will next appear supporting Polaris for their massive regional Australian tour which kicks off on June 27 in Cairns, and concludes in Frankston on July 28.

Cold Chisel announce 50th Anniversary Tour – The Big Five-0

Cold Chisel announce 50th Anniversary Tour – “The Big Five-0”

‘Best Of’ Celebrations to be staged under a huge circus big top in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane

Fan Presale from 12 noon (local) on Friday, 31 May
General Public onsale from 12 noon (local) on Tuesday, 4 June

Cold Chisel revealed today that they will celebrate 50 years together with a truly unique tour … “The Big Five-0

In a surprising – but apt – move, this golden anniversary party will kick off on Saturday, 5 October in Armidale, where Cold Chisel based themselves back in 1974-1975 while Don Walker completed his university studies. The tour will then lap around major Australian cities for 7 weeks before culminating on Sunday, 17 November in the city where the band formed … Adelaide.

The Big Five-0” will be a night like no other. This time, the band isn’t touring to promote a new album; they are touring for the best possible reason … “because we all love playing gigs together”. Their anniversary provides scope for a show that features all the classic songs with which Cold Chisel carved their unique place in Oz Rock history – Khe Sanh, Bow River, Flame Trees, You Got Nothin’ I Want, When The War Is Over, My Baby, Cheap Wine, All For You, Choir Girl, Last Wave Of Summer, Saturday Night, Breakfast At Sweethearts, Forever Now and so many more.

Limited tickets will go onsale to members of Cold Chisel’s mailing list (sign up here) from 12.00pm (local times) on Friday, 31 May. General Public onsale will begin at 12.00pm (local times) on Tuesday, 4 June. Go to coldchisel.com/tour for tickets.

In Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, the shows will be staged under a specially constructed, 10,000 capacity Big Top tent featuring floor and bleacher seating plus a GA standing area across the rear half of the venue. The dates will be a nod to the band’s legendary ‘An Evening with the Circus Animals’ shows in 1982 which closed with Jimmy Barnes singing Goodbye (Astrid, Goodbye) while riding pillion on a motorbike flying up a trapeze wire (you had to see it to believe it).

Those notorious album launch gigs featured an actual circus troupe as the support act. This time around that ringmaster role will be played at nearly all shows by ARIA Award winning chart toppers The Cruel Sea (*excluding Gold Coast, Newcastle, Hobart and Wollongong) and soulful singer/songwriter Karen Lee Andrews. Outdoor concerts in Armidale, Perth and Ballarat will also feature special guest performances from beloved contemporary rock band Birds of Tokyo and 90’s legends The Superjesus making for some extra epic nights (presented by Red Hot Summer). And for the tour’s grand finale they will headline the post-race concert after the VAILO Adelaide 500 Supercars event. Tickets to the Adelaide show go on sale at 10.00am today (Wednesday, 29 May). For full dates and details please see below.

As piano player and chief songwriter Don Walker explains: “We’ll be going all out to celebrate a milestone birthday like this. Bookending the tour in the two places where we first welded the band together, building these circus tent shows in 3 cities, bringing along some great guests and doing a set which reaches back across our whole song catalogue should all make “The Big Five-0” a tour to remember.”

Just over a month prior to the first of these gigs, Cold Chisel will release 50 Years – The Best Of. The album will land on Friday, 23 August, just in time for Father’s Day, and is a 25 song, double-vinyl set that comes in a number of special vinyl formats and a double-CD set – and includes all of their classic songs. Pre-order the album from here from 7.00am today.

“We wanted to celebrate our 50th birthday by revisiting all of our best work from across the years,” says guitarist and singer, Ian Moss. “As we prepare the setlist, there are a minimum of 15 songs that our audience demands to hear. This time we’ll be playing all of them plus we’ll be throwing in lots of musical surprises as well.”

“Gold is obviously associated with 50th anniversaries” says bass player Phil Small, “so we thought it would be fun to pull the tour into Ballarat – Australia’s gold mining capital. We’re looking forward to playing the Gold Coast, Newcastle, Wollongong and Hobart too because each of those cities have been important to us in various ways over the last 50 years.”

Jimmy Barnes was recently asked: ‘Are Cold Chisel together or apart?’

“Cold Chisel are never apart. We’re as close as brothers,” he said. “Some of the best moments of my life have been spent on stage with those boys, and I hope we keep going ‘til the day we drop.”

For Jimmy, these are not idle words. A near death experience last December when he underwent emergency open heart surgery sharpened his focus. As Jimmy recovered, a key priority was to get back onstage with Cold Chisel. “The Big Five-0 is a landmark moment,” says the country’s most famous singer. “There have been plenty of times where I never thought I’d live to see this day so I’m going to make the most of it. I can’t wait to celebrate with my mates and with all the fans who have been such a big part of our story. We’re gonna smash it!”

The Cold Chisel story has stretched from Armidale and Adelaide in 1974 to three new gold and platinum albums over the last dozen years, winning the band multiple generations of fans. Their most recent release – 2019’s Blood Moon – topped the charts and its lead single, Getting The Band Back Together, won the APRA Award for Australia’s Most Performed Rock Work.

As the accolades have piled up – ARIA Hall Of Fame, APRA’s Ted Albert Award, an Adelaide Street named in their honour, even their own postage stamp – Cold Chisel has come to understand the special place their music now occupies in Australasian hearts. “The Big Five-0” will be a rare chance for fans of all ages to see the band in action and sing their songs to them one more time.

Don Walker summed it up succinctly, “This 50th anniversary tour will be a huge celebration – for all of us.”

Cold Chisel is:

Jimmy Barnes – Vocals
Ian Moss – Guitars & Vocal
Steve Prestwich – Drums (RIP 2011)
Phil Small – Bass
Don Walker – Piano & Organ
Charley Drayton – Drums (since 2011)

THE ANIMALS – The Farewell Tour: The Final Encore – Massive 29 Date Tour Begins This Week

THE ANIMALS – The Farewell Tour: The Final Encore is upon us. After selling out every show of their February / March tour just a few months ago, the demand was too hard to ignore so THE ANIMALS return for a massive 29 date final tour!

The Animals’ impact and influence is undeniable. They created some of the most iconic songs in popular music history including – ‘We’ve Gotta Get Out Of This Place’, ‘The House of The Rising Sun’, ‘Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood’, ‘It’s My Life’, ‘Don’t Bring Me Down’ and ‘Boom Boom’ and more all of which will be performed on this Greatest Hits Final Tour

The Animals were “one of the most important bands” in the British Invasion. The Beatles and Rolling Stones were the headliners, whilst The Animals were the backbone of blues!

Britannia Ruled the airwaves in 1964. In the front ranks, marching in formation behind the Beatles were The Animals who became the second British band to top the American charts after The Beatles. Featuring original member John Steel alongside Danny Handley, Bobby Ruiz and Barney “Boogie” Williams, music fans can expect a fantastic concert of the Best of The Animals.

John Steel first formed The Animals when he and Eric Burden met as art-school dropouts.

“We started off as the Pagan Jazzmen and we morphed into the Pagans, a slightly R&B rock outfit. We played a church hall in Byker [East Newcastle] and this kid from another band who was a rhythm guitar player came over and said, ‘Can I sit in?’ and there was an old upright piano, so we said, ‘Sure’. He hammered this piano with a left hand boogie style. We went, ‘Oh come on, you’re in the wrong band, you should be playing piano, not guitar!’ This was Alan Price and that’s how we became a keyboard driven band.”

When the band found a 1956 album by Joe Turner called Boss of the Blues, the guys lifted a couple of numbers off the album and called themselves the Kansas City Five and after many incarnations and members coming and going, finally settled on calling themselves the Alan Price Rhythm and Blues Combo – later changing their name to The Animals when they moved to London. According to folklore ‘animals’ described their wild stage act and the name stuck.

The Animals performed fiery versions of the staple rhythm-and-blues repertoire, covering songs by artists such as Jimmy Reed, John Lee Hooker, Nina Simone.

Signed to EMI’s Columbia label, their first single was a rocking version of the standard “Baby Let Me Follow You Down” (retitled “Baby Let Me Take You Home”)

In June 1964, the transatlantic number-one hit “The House of the Rising Sun” was released, creating perhaps the first folk-rock hit. It topped the charts in the UK, US and Canada and tells a cautionary tale of a person’s life gone wrong in New Orleans.

Steel explains his memory upon first hearing the song.

“Well to be honest, the first time I ever heard it was on Bob Dylan’s first album, all acoustic. Then I learned that it had been around for donkey’s years and nobody knew who originally wrote it. I’m pretty sure regardless of all the stories, it was the first time any of us had heard it. We liked it. We loved that album. I knew there was something special – the rising sun stood out. Since then, it’s been sung by Led Zeppelin, Josh White, all sorts of people around the world.”

The track was reportedly recorded in just one take with producer Mickie Most. ‘House of the Rising Sun’ remains one of Steel’s favourite songs today and its longevity is not lost on him.

“One minute we were five working- class Geordie lads just having a nibble at the charts with ‘Baby Let Me Take You Home’ and the next minute we’re jetting off to America with a number one. It had an enormous effect on us and apart from that, it’s a bloody good song. I still think it’s the definitive version, in electric terms anyway.”

The other well-known hits The Animals still perform today are all classics in every sense of the word.

‘We Gotta Get Out of this Place’ was chosen as the anthem for the US armed forces during the Vietnam War and is still sung by high school kids on the last day of school.

“They’re not pop songs, they’re not la la la song,” says Steel when asked about the legacy of The Animals canon. “They’re songs about the dark side of life.”

Steel loves to perform with The Animals, the only remaining original member to do so. He is constantly amazed at the families and vast age ranges who attend their shows.

“When we play, it’s a mixed audience, we get people of our own generation – but there’s a lot of young people coming to see us! And they’re really getting off on it, they know all of the songs and lyrics. I love to see them, they’re down the front and when we go out after the show and sign CDs and things like that we’re meeting these people – they weren’t even born when we were doing this stuff! And I’m really enjoying meeting them. But we’re a real band, we’re a live band and there’s no backing tracks.

It’s just us onstage with our instruments, playing and we love what we do and I think it comes across. We get a standing ovation every time, so we must be doing something right I guess!”

Alienist Announce The Love//Hate Australian Tour With Special Guests ATLVS & Synge

Wollongong metalcore band Alienist and UNFD presents The Love//Hate Tour; Alienist‘s first tour since signing with international record label UNFD and releasing their debut EP Love/Hate.

Kicking off on July 19 in Melbourne, The Love//Hate Tour will head to Canberra, Newcastle, Wamberal, Ulladulla, Wollongong, Sydney and Brisbane, before closing out on August 18 on the Gold Coast, joined by special guests ATLVS and Synge.

“We can’t wait to show Australia the new Alienist, we want to make this a night you won’t forget!”
– Damon Renes, Alienist

Alienist have swiftly stormed the heavy scene in a remarkably short space of time, chalking up triple j airplay, being featured in major publications such as Kerrang, Knotfest and Revolver, and playing alongside bands such as Northlane, Windwaker, Gravemind and Paledusk and an appearance at UNIFY Off The Record.

Flexing an explosive amalgamation of rage and serenity on their recent EP Love/Hate, released on March 1 via UNFD, is an exciting debut collection of songs from the Wollongong five-piece. Whether battling with religious ideals alongside commanding execution (Godless), facing the crumbling world around with a flurry of distortion (Distorted Reflections), detailing a breakdown of love set to turgid guitars and torrential beats (Absent), seeking hope and purpose in creativity (Hypnotise), or serving up a biting commentary on a toxic relationship (Prisoner Of You), Love/Hate is simultaneously confronting and cathartic, with Alienist firmly at the helm of a journey that feels instantly personal yet universal.

Showcasing the newest music from their discography alongside some older favourites in a live set built from the ground up, prepare to witness Alienist in a whole new light this July and August.

Joining Alienist, Melbourne heavy hitters ATLVS will be primed to bring an aggressive and heavy live set. With several Australian tours already under their belt, the band have also played alongside bands such as ERRA, We Came As Romans and Kingdom Of Giants and most recently released their mini EP Shadow Dancer in late 2023.

To round out the trio of bands for The Love//Hate Tour is the 2023 Good Things Band Competition winners from Sydney: Synge. Previously performing alongside the likes of Ocean Sleeper, Windwaker and Volumes, Synge will arrive armed with their most recent single Laniakea and plenty of their trademark insatiable energy.

This tour will be full of breakdowns, singalongs and mayhem. You don’t want to miss it.

Dear Seattle Release Heartfelt New Single ‘Sungazer’ & Touring Nationally This May, June & July

DEAR SEATTLE
RELEASE HEARTFELT NEW SINGLE
SUNGAZER

TOURING NATIONALLY THIS MAY, JUNE + JULY

An instant Dear Seattle classic, the brand new single Sungazer, out today via Domestic La La, blends driving melodics with heartfelt sincerity, bridging the old with an exciting new creative chapter for the Sydney quartet.

Between its sharp punk structure, percolating basslines and gooey harmonies, Sungazer shines as it swells around a driving chorus. Catchy yet sincere and once again primed to unite en-masse singalongs in a live setting, Sungazer is equally a reflective earworm as much as it is an organic evolution for Dear Seattle at its core.

“There’s no right way to go about your life,” shares vocalist and guitarist Brae Fisher, unpacking the meaning behind the new track. “It’s all just a series of small decisions that make up the whole, and ultimately you can only base those decisions on what brings you the most joy and contentment.”

“As a teen I couldn’t understand how people didn’t see life the way I did,” Fisher continues, “and if I didn’t share those values with someone, I figured we weren’t supposed to share our lives. I’ve lost close friends to that mindset, and it sucks, but it’s taught me to accept that everyone is trying, and that the most important thing is that we’re all on the same journey towards happiness. To those friends I’ve lost, go do your thing. Be who you need to be, and just know that I’ll be here regardless, waiting for you with open arms whenever it’s needed.”

“Sungazer has a little bit of everything you can expect to hear in new DS. It dips into some new territories and sonics, but still feels utterly true to us at its core, and that’s what I love about it. It’s a song I feel so personally connected to both lyrically and musically and I feel like we’ve hit something truly unique to us.”

With a distinctive Aussie tinge to their emotive and propulsive wares, Dear Seattle first emerged onto the scene back in 2013, releasing their debut EP Words Are Often Useless that same year. Following a second EP release, 2017’s self-titled Dear Seattle, the Northern Beaches-hailing group solidified their presence with their first ever full-length album Don’t Let Go in 2019, also securing the group a #10 spot on the ARIA Australian Album Charts.

Unleashing their powerful sophomore album Someday in 2022, Dear Seattle expanded their legacy to even greater heights, with Someday debuting at #4 on the ARIA Australian Album Charts, a Spotlight Album feature on triple j, and Rolling Stone declaring that “Dear Seattle is born again“.

Continuously honing their modern take on old school pop punk and indie rock over the years, Dear Seattle have previously performed alongside the likes of Hockey Dad, Trophy Eyes and Dune Rats, with multiple headline tours and appearances at Splendour In The Grass, UNIFY Gathering, Party In The Paddock and more in their wake.

In honour of their 2023 modern-day grunge hit idc, Dear Seattle have hit the road for a massive regional run around the country, marking the band’s most extensive tour to date. With 23 dates, six states and territories, and brand new music up their sleeves for the tour, Dear Seattle will also be bringing along some exceptional young acts, including Deadshowws, Jet City Sports Club, LATE 90s, Spici Water and The Tullamarines in support, who are set to have the crowd heaving from the first note. YOU ME AT SIX Announce Last Ever Australian Shows With Special Guests HOLDING ABSCENCE

YOU ME AT SIX are one of the most beloved British rock bands of all time, having delivered multiple number 1 albums, dominating charts, racking up hundreds of millions of streams, selling out arenas and headlining festivals; and along the way crafting some of the catchiest pop-rock anthems of their generation. ‘Bite My Tongue’, Take on the World’, ‘Underdog’, ‘Beautiful Way’, ‘Room to Breathe’… the list of classics seems almost endless. The band’s revival of infectious and spirited pop-rock earned them a mass of fans worldwide, seeing them sell out show after show across the globe.

Choosing to bring such a storied 20-year career to an end cannot be easy. Doing so with your original line-up, on your own terms, and with the band members remaining best of friends is unheard of. But as the saying goes, go out at the top of your game and You Me At Six are certainly doing that.

Having shocked the rock world recently by announcing their imminent demise, the band are setting out on their greatest tour, delivering a career-spanning 2 hour set and determined to leave the fans with a truly special performance to remember them by. “We’ve got a plan to play songs from every single album and make it a real victory lap. And everyone feels like that. We’ve looked at the setlists and gone, ‘Cool – those five can stay, the rest is going to be stuff we haven’t done for years. We want to have 50 songs ready to go so that each night we can constantly mix it up and make it special.”

“When we started YMAS we were kids. We only ever wanted to travel and to experience life as a group of friends. We feel like on the eve of our 20th anniversary as a band, now is a good time to call time. “We’re in a fortunate position where our fans still want to see us live and come celebrate the life of this band. So that is what we will do for 2024 and 2025. We can’t wait to see our fans on the road.” explains frontman Josh Franceschi.

Joining You Me At Six for this monumental tour, as their very special guests, are Holding Absence, the band British rock bible Kerrang! labelled as British rock’s “new leading light”. Loudwire proclaims the Cardiff natives to be “the UK’s most exciting new rock band’’.

Known for their emotive lyricism and powerful soundscapes, Holding Absence will bring their own brand of thoughtful intensity to the tour, riding high on the back of their critically acclaimed latest album The Noble Art Of Self Destruction. The albumbrims with a level of energy, excitement and a sheer weight of feeling almost unparalleled in contemporary alternative music. The Guardian, in their 9.5/10 review of the album declared them “one of Britain’s most underrated bands” and predicted that “it is only a matter of time” before they are playing arenas and headlining festivals.

The tour promises to be a celebration of music and camaraderie. Emotion will be high in the room as You Me At Six bid us farewell one last memorable time and signing off on a stellar career, whilst Holding Absence take another step forward to cement their position as leaders of their genre.

[Review] Everything Everything / The Vaccines @ Forum Theatre, Melbourne 09/05/2024

Braving Melbourne’s rain-drenched streets this Thursday evening, a sold-out crowd packed their way into the Forum in anticipation of a cosier occasion, brimming with nostalgic British Rock royalty. Making their first return to Australian shores since 2018 and 2019 respectively, co-headliners Everything Everything and The Vaccines are the unexpected combination of uniquely daring, and familiarly sentimental, blurring the lines of what is recognised within the classic rock genre.

In a Melbourne-exclusive, crowds were blessed to witness Kitschen Boy, awakening the iconic venue and setting the tone for the night. The four exquisitely suited local lads absolutely astounded audiences with their high-energy, 80s sound, packed with captivating basslines and contemplative lyricism. Immediately placing the audience into the crescendo of a coming-of-age film, the band exudes an aura of youth and vulnerability, whilst remaining infectiously danceable.

The indie band’s front man Dylan Baddeley is the epitome of confidence. His on-stage persona flaunts a kind of smugness, paramount to the British trad rock genre. Through their heavy thumping set, I couldn’t help but wonder whether this really was the ‘supporting’ act for the night. Powering through their short-but-sweet discography, and barely stopping for air, the band landed on their recent 2024 single, The Perfect Excuse. The introspective lyricism paired with trademark dreamy, muffled vocals makes for a standout hit, and the theatrical peak of their freshly released EP, Now Arriving At Panic Station.

Adorned with golden Hollywood lighting, perfectly placed synth, and ingenious bass lines, the band’s all-consuming blanket of vintage rock ‘n roll truly bought the Forum to life. Closing with 2019 single Charlie Don’t Party, the audience was left on an absolute high; a final clashing instrumental paired with blinding strobe cementing Kitschen Boy as some of Melbourne’s finest talent.

Waltzing onstage as nonchalant as ever, English Art-Rock band Everything Everything were set to make their Aussie return, touring their 2024 LP Mountainhead. Veterans of the genre, Everything Everything are best known for their complex and abstract tracks, drawing heavy inspiration from Radiohead, Nirvana, and The Beatles. With such legendary foundations, the band construct incredibly high expectations – which were most certainly met in their hour-long set.

The most colourful act of the night, Everything Everything’s unbelievably intricate, perfectly mismatched instrumentalism was clear from the outset. Maintaining an upbeat and energetic tone with their music, whilst under such heavy physical composure, the band exudes an unmatched level of professionalism. Taking their fans through a captivating journey of their expansive discography, they made sure to touch upon all the hits; the flawless harmonies of The End of The Contender, hypnotic lyricism of Arch Enemy, and infectious groove of Pizza Boy, to name a few.  By the half-way point of the set, the band entirely stripped back their fourth wall, inviting the audience to sing along. The movement of frontman Jonathan Higgs becoming increasingly fluid and captivating.

Jonathan’s vocals, most impressively his signature falsetto, are a standout feature of Everything Everything’s music. The band’s intricate song writing is also credited to the multi-talented frontman, who shares the intention of “avoid[ing] cliche, or the cliches expected of white men with guitars from Manchester”. However, the band’s spotlight is not solely contained to the centre stage, with each individual musician shining independently of each other. Another standout of their live set is touring keyboardist and percussionist Peter Sené. Travelling with the band since 2012, Peter has cemented himself as an honorary member of the band, bringing infectious energy to every song with his power stance and enthusiastic headbanging.

Nearing their grand finale, Everything Everything still had so much ground to cover. Hits including Kemosabe, Enter the Mirror, and Night of the Long Knives keeping the crowd on their toes, and introducing new musical elements with every verse. With a set so incredibly full of life and energy, and each song fresher than the last, it is clear to see how Everything Everything has amassed such a cult-like following. Distant Past, a standout of the set, is a culmination of the band’s catalogue of genres. Meshing rap vocals, a dance beat, rock guitar, jazz horns, and electronic glitches, the band proves there is nothing out of their grasp in today’s musical landscape – making them undoubtedly some of the best in the business.

Introducing a band with a hit from one of the greatest rock artists of all time is quite the statement. But West London’s, The Vaccines, entrance to the McCartney classic, Live and Let Die, was a perfect fit. The eccentric Indie-Rock heavyweights, fronted by affectionately cocky singer-songwriter Justin Young, bring a modern edge to the British glam rock genre. Flaunting flared trousers, a blazer, and a pair of Windsor-style sunglasses, The Vaccines ooze coolness, before even a single note is played. Kicking the set off, the single Love To Walk Away from their 2024 album Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations had the room in a trance. Playing every song as if it were the finale, The Vaccines have a mesmerising way of personally involving every audience member in their high-voltage spectacle.  Making tactical eye contact with fans pressed against the barrier, it is clear the band have a following similarly ecstatic to that of early rock icons.

Waltzing though their impressive fourteen-year discography, the band barely paused for breath. Hits like I Can’t Quit flaunts their signature carefree feel, whilst clearly having the time of their lives revisiting Melbourne for the first time in six years. Hinting to their cheeky, unhinged side, the band transitioned into their ‘one for the animals’, Post Break-Up Sex. Dancing around the stage with fancy footwork, and pointing into the distance aimlessly, Justin makes the whole performer gig look easy. This is what diversifies The Vaccines from other rock bands, they are performing simply to have a fun and carefree time, with no hidden agendas or messages to push; and man, was the audience having fun!

Moving into a dreamier soundscape, Discount de Kooning (Last One Standing), bought with it a nostalgic energy, almost as if pulled from a teen romance film. Ringing guitars paired with continuous dazzling synth, and incredibly smooth flowing vocals gives the track a particular warmth. Lines like ‘Baby we should keep on dancing, I feel that something good is going to happen’ are uniform with the way The Vaccines consistently refresh audiences with happy positive music, yet not void of emotion.

Flying through hit after hit, The Vaccines reminded us of what flawless musicians they are, playing consistently dynamic tracks one after the other. After captivating thousands of minds for the last hour, the marathon of an evening closed out with the 2018 pop anthem All My Friends Are Falling In Love. Leaving the stage with the audience still dancing the night away, naturally, fans refused to leave, desperate for an encore. Once the house lights flickered on, and the glitz and glam faded, all we were left with was the memories of an incredibly fun night of rock music (and maybe a hangover or two!)
