UK Legends UB40 have set their sights on Australia for October 2022!

The UK’s most successful Reggae band, UB40 have announced that their eagerly anticipated return to Australia will officially take place this October!

Originally set to tour Australia in October 2020 as part of their 40th anniversary, and to perform hits from their latest releases ‘For The Many’ ‘Bigga Baggariddim’, the reggae pioneers will finally grace the shores of Australia this year, with huge shows planned for the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

Despite the many unknowns in international touring, UB40 have stayed aggressively optimistic over the past 24 months, taking the time to perfect their brand new live show, just for Aussie audiences.

We always look forward to trips down under. Said the band in a statement today It’s one of our favourite places in the world to perform, but with so many uncertainties in the world these past two years, we felt it was far more important to focus on everyone’s safety. Now that borders have reopened, we’re finally ready to get back to Australia and perform the show fans have been waiting for!”

For those lucky enough to score passes to the band’s Australian tour, tickets will still remain valid for all upcoming shows.

Having previously sold out their 2015, 2017 and 2018 tours, the band
return to Australia with plans for a more extensive tour hitting Sunshine Coast and The Gold Coast, as well as the more usual Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth

The ‘40th Anniversary For The Many Tour’ will offer audiences a taste of classic hits like ‘
Food for Thought’, ‘1 in 10’, ‘Red Red Wine’, ‘Kingston Town’ and ‘Can’t Help falling In Love With You’, as well as tracks from the latest releases ‘For The Many’ and ‘Bigga Baggariddim’ which will be performed live in Australia for the first time.

One of the UK biggest exports UB40 have achieved over forty top 40 hits in their native Britain with international sales of over
100 million records, the band are one of the biggest UK music acts of all time, and continue to record charting albums while touring across the world including regular trips to Australia where they have firmly found a place in the hearts of fans.

After four decades of success including their hit singles, international stadium tours and festival headline slots, the band suffered the devastating loss of founder member, lyricist and lead sax player Brian Travers who lost his long battle with cancer in 2021. Although “There is a giant Brian shaped hole that can never be filled”, they continue with the surviving key founding members and songwriting core, staying true to and building on the legacy and ethos of the band.

UB40 are founder members Robin Campbell (vocals and guitar), Earl Falconer (bass, vocal), Jimmy Brown (drums) and Norman Hassan (percussion, vocals) with new lead vocalist Matt Doyle. The band also features Martin Meredith (sax) and Laurence Parry (trumpet), who have both been in UB40’s touring and recording line-up for over twenty years, Tony Mullings (keyboards) and Ian Thompson (sax) creating a genre-defining synergy of horns and rhythm section that are uniquely UB40.

HARDCORE SUPERSTAR Announce New Album ABRAKADABRA – Due Out March 25th

Abrakadabra is the upcoming album from Gothenburg’s leading exponents of street metal, HARDCORE SUPERSTAR! The follow up to 2018’s critically acclaimed You Can't Kill My Rock 'N' Roll, Abrakadabrawill be released physically and digitally via Golden Robot Records (for USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South America only) on March 25th, and is available to pre-order on digital and CD now.

HARDCORE SUPERSTAR has recently released five alcohol-fuelled, riff-laden singles. ‘Catch Me If You Can’, ‘Dreams In Red’, ‘Weep When You Die’ and ‘Forever and a Day’, and their latest, ‘Fighter’, now available on all digital platforms. All 5 tracks give a deep insight into the brilliance of Abrakadabra, which may just be HARDCORE SUPERSTAR’s best album to date.

Containing 10 hard-hitting songs exploding with riffs, attitude, intensity, and that magical feeling you get when your work is over and the weekend is here, Abrakadabra is an album for the fans and best shared with great friends, cold beers and very loudspeakers!

Recorded in 2020 and 2021 at both Österlyckan and Bombastik in Musikens Hus – Gothenburg, the decision was made early on to once again work with Johan Reiven, who was responsible for production duties on the bands ‘Black Album’. Adde states, “Working with Johan was like stepping back in time, there’s a shared intensity and commitment to excel that collectively drives us and ultimately brings out the best in us all…I am 100% happy with the result.”

This shared intensity can be heard on every one of the tracks from the defiantly rebellious ‘Dreams in Red’ through to the bar-soaked philosophy of ‘One For All’ and the thundering powerhouse that is ‘Catch Me If You Can’.

Abrakadabra is uncomplicated, rock n’ roll escapism and entertainment at its best…sprinkled with a little bit of magic for good measure.

The success and acclaim of You Can’t Kill My Rock 'N' Roll inspired the band significantly and writing for Abrakadabra enthusiastically started whilst out on tour. Connecting with so many fans, old and new helped to influence the shape and sound of the new record, with drummer Adde commenting that the new album, “feels like the record we should have released after the Black album”.

Interview with Matt Wilkinson (Ghost Orchid)

We all have some skeletons in the closet, but Nikki Sixx has a whole graveyard hiding in his. The First 21 takes you through one bag of bones at a time in a very candid journey through his life. His honesty is to be commended, and I felt his pain on many occasions, as he unfurled his childhood demons and his life living as Frankie Ferrana Jnr.

YES, THE MEANIES are playing with FOO FIGHTERS!! ~~Interview with Link Meanie~~

Yep, it's all over the news – Melbourne's iconic indie punk band The Meanies are opening for the Foo Fighters on Friday in Geelong. And of course, they're pretty chuffed about it, especially since it's been 30 years (nearly to the day) since they first played with a young Dave Grohl when he was in Nirvana. As Wally Meanie sez, “Thirty years since we opened for Dave’s old band, happy anniversary pal!”

In this time of Foo frenzy, let it be noted also that the Meanies are about to undertake their own tour as well, to belatedly celebrate their most recent album Desperate Measures. Check out the details below.

***

ONLY in these crazy times might a band tour its 'new' album two years after it was released, but that's what the Meanies will be doing when they hit the road to finally give Desperate Measures a proper live airing. Desperate Measures was released in July 2020 (on Cheersquad Records & Tapes), by which time the shit had already hit the fan. Their BETTER LATE THAN NEVER DESPERATE MEASURES TOUR was first announced a year ago when things looked like they'd cleared.  It got bumped a couple of times and announced again in November 2021 for this year. Then Omicron came along, blowing out January and causing another reshuffle. So here we go again.

ABOUT THE MEANIES – Starting out in '88, following on from the late '80s GOD/Bored scene and anticipated the subsequent successes of Spiderbait and Magic Dirt, the Meanies are genuine Melbourne icons and national treasures. Arriving at the same time as grunge, they defied the odds with a pop punk-meets-hardcore sound that pre-empted what was to come out of the US on labels like Epitaph and Fat Wreck Chords.  They became Triple J and Big Day Out faves (they did the BDO in 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1999!) and kings of the all-ages circuit, and they toured their arses off, playing with the likes of Nirvana, The Lemonheads, Redd Kross, Beastie Boys, Pearl Jam and Bad Brains along the way. They toured Europe, the US, and Japan and retain an international following. And like their older and uglier brethren The Cosmic Psychos, The Meanies are now enjoying a late-career revival, which began with the release of their first album in 21 years, It's Not Me It's You in late 2015 on Poison City Records. Desperate Measures was released in July 2020.
