Interview with Taime Downe (Faster Pussycat)

Brash, unashamed, loud and in your face, GLAM FEST is here Australia.

Catering to fans of throwback glam metal (think ‘80s era Sunset strip), sleaze, shock rock, hard rock and everything in between, GLAM FEST offers fans of the genre a platter of sleazy goodness.

The first instalment in January 2023 serves diversity in both sound and style and is headed by the poster boys of everything ’80s Sunset Strip, Faster Pussycat who return to Australia armed with new music and on a live show that has seen them as one of the most consistent bands of the era. They are joined by horror punk sleaze cowboy outlaws, and Australian crowd faves, Wednesday 13 who are celebrating their 20th anniversary with their new album, Horrifier, European melodic rock titans, Eclipse, the non-stop energy of rock outfit, Enuff Z’Nuff, cult glam heroes, Pretty Boy Floyd and the hooks and riffs of LA glam rockers, Tuff.

On the local front, Melbourne hard rock act, Sisters Doll join the bill nationally together with tongue in cheek theatrical rockers, Crosson.

They will be joined by a heavy hitting cast of locals in each city which includes the likes of CatalanoCassidy ParisAtomic RiotDept. Of Gloom and Star Crazy.

Organisers, Silverback Touring, say that “Glam Fest is about good music and good times and bringing both the old and new generations of such a diverse genre together on the one bill”.

If anything, GLAM FEST will have punters reaching for their leather jackets and eye liner in what will no doubt be a huge day and night out of pure unadulterated hard rock ecstasy.

Legendary vocalist GEOFF TATE is coming back to Australia after his highly successful shows performing OPERATION MINDCRIME in its entirety back in pre-Covid 2020.

This time, Aussie fans are in for a real treat, GEOFF TATE and band will perform two classic QUEENSRŸCHE albums in their entirety, RAGE FOR ORDER and EMPIRE!

RAGE FOR ORDER:

RAGE FOR ORDER was more progressive than the band's previous releases, with a layered and complex musical structure that employed a two-guitar approach, but also brought keyboards forward in the mix. Lyrically, the album explored social/personal, political and technological themes, among others highlighting the dangers of artificial intelligence and government intrusion.

Then after a short break, you will hear QUEENSRŸCHE's most commercially successful release to date, the multi-platinum worldwide smash, EMPIRE.

EMPIRE:

EMPIRE is the fourth full-length studio album by QUEENSRŸCHE, released on August 20, 1990. The album stands as QUEENSRŸCHE‘s most commercially successful release, reaching triple-platinum status and the primary single, the power ballad Silent Lucidity, which reached number 1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks and number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. Silent Lucidity was also nominated for the Grammy Awards of 1992 in the categories Best Rock Song and Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.

Polaris 10 Year Anniversary Australian Tour With Special Guests Void Of Vision & Pridelands

They say time flies when you’re having fun and it’s been a hella epic ride for Sydney metalcore titans POLARIS in the last decade. So, what better way to celebrate than to throw a 10 Year Anniversary Australian tour with their friends VOID OF VISION and PRIDELANDS in tow.

Kicking off on March 3 in their hometown of Sydney and making their way across the country to Perth, the 10 Year Anniversary venues are paying homage to the debut album cycle where they sold these venues out across The Mortal Coil and Spring tours in 2017.

“Where did the years go?! Apparently, it’s been a whole decade ago since this handful of babyfaced kids from suburban Sydney finally assembled a line-up, recorded a demo and stepped onto a stage for the first time as Polaris.” Says Polaris drummer, Daniel Furnari

He adds, “Over the course of the ten years and four records that followed, we worked our way through every community hall, theatre or dive that would take us, sleeping on the floors of vans and sharehouses in the name of metalcore.

Today, this thing we built together has taken us all around the world, giving us the chance to connect with so many incredible people that now all share a role in our story.

Sometimes it feels like we’re just getting started, but as we reach this milestone it seems only right to take stock and reminisce a little about the journey so far. And what better way to do that than with an intimate retrospective tour?! We’ll be reaching right back to our early EPs and beyond to pull out some deep cuts and old faves for the first (and probably last!) time in a long while. Joining us will be our old and very dear friends in Void of Vision and Pridelands, to add some new memories to the many that we’ve already shared over the years. If you were with us back in the day at Blacktown or Sutherland, at Wrangler or the Lab, at Hot Damn or Enigma, this one is for you. You’ve all made this possible and we can’t wait to celebrate our past, present and future with you around Australia this March!”

In 2017, POLARIS released The Mortal Coil, their debut album which debuted in the top 10 ARIA charts and received an ARIA-nomination. It was followed up with 2021’s, ARIA-nominated, #3 ARIA Album chart record, The Death Of Me. They have been awarded a laundry list of accolades including triple j’s Feature Album with both albums, album of the year mentions in end of year lists and have toured across the globe.

It’s been an incredible journey for POLARIS with countless sold-out headline tours of Australia, supporting Architects and Parkway Drive around the country; five runs throughout Europe (including a series of arena shows supporting Architects, a slew of high-profile summer festival spots, Northlane and their first headline tour); four separate US tours; not to mention performing at the Download Festival, Unify Gathering in Australia, headlining Knight & Day Festival and most recently performing the 2022 Good Things Festival headlined by Bring Me The Horizon.

After unleashing the final instalment of the beloved Chronicles EP series, VOID OF VISION have not only left people longing for more, but in tandem increased curiosity and demand for what could come next. In the midst of a UK tour with Holding Absence and an appearance at the inaugural Knotfest Australia on the horizon, the band are poised to return home to continue to take the country by storm.

Melbourne-based, PRIDELANDS kicked off 2022 with the release of their highly anticipated debut studio album, Light Bends which had glowing reviews and landed them an appearance at Unify Forever in 2022 and a national regional tour with In Hearts Wake.

Set those alarm clocks and get those party vibes ready as this is a celebration you won’t want to miss. There is limited capacity and there will be no additional nights added. Don’t say we didn’t warn ya.

Melbourne Guitar Show Is Set To Return in March 2023

The Melbourne Guitar Show is ready to make its rockin’ return in 2023, set to storm Caulfield Racecourse on March 4 and 5, with tickets on sale today from www.melbourneguitarshow.com.au. It’s been 3 long years since the last show was devoured by over 5,000 guitar and music loving punters, but we’re breaking open the cases, dusting down the show, oiling its neck, setting its action and tuning it to perfection for a grand return in 2023.

L – R: Liz Frencham, Nick Charles, Anna Scionti, Ash Grunwald, Minnie Marks, Shannon Bourne, Phil Manning, Charlie Bedford, Corey Legge – at 2019 MGS, photo credit Jason Rosewarne

Executive officer of the AMA, Alex Masso says, “The association is pleased to be able to announce the re-birth of our iconic show in 2023. The industry has missed the chance to meet face-to-face and talk to guitar enthusiasts about our great products.

“There has been a huge interest in the guitar over the past couple of years, with a big spike in demand during the pandemic. This is an instrument for everyone and the old stereotypes of shredders and being a male dominated instrument are fading away. Even as music changes over time it remains the most popular instrument, Melbourne Guitar Show is a showcase for the wide range of guitars and guitarists we have in Australia.”

Thrilled to present #MGS2023 once again, MGS organiser, Rob Walker says, “It’s exciting to see the show back again adding value to the live music industry after the unusual times of the last couple of years. We are proud to present such a broad range and quality of guitars, amps and gear from the big brands to local artisans. And each year we get to put together a program of live music featuring the considerable talents of our guitar community. It’s a great weekend for anyone into music, particularly guitars, and we encourage you to bring the kids to inspire our next generation of guitarists.

“And not only will the #MGS2023 provide a hands-on chance to see and play such a broad range of gear, there’ll be bargains a plenty”, he added, “All the guitars you can eat in the biggest buffet of gear you can imagine!”

The Melbourne Guitar Show will be held at Caulfield Racecourse on March 4 & 5, 2023

DENNIS COMETTI Return with New Single “BLOKE ON THE RUN” & Aaustralian Tour Dates 🏃

Perth Punks Dennis Cometti (The Band) have come charging back with their brand new single “Bloke On The Run” and a stack of tour dates around the country in January ‘23.

“Bloke On The Run” is a punk rock history lesson about Western Australia’s best known bushranger, Moondyne Joe. A terrible crook yet brilliant escape artist, Moondyne Joe may not be as famous as his armored Victorian counterpart, but Dennis Cometti reckon his story is worthy of enshrining in riffs.

Guitarist/vocalist Alex Patching elaborates: “When Joseph Bolitho Johns was rotting away in the hull of a dingy ship en route to Fremantle’s convict establishment in early 1853, the idea that a local trio of bozos would dedicate two and half minutes of AC/DC worship to his name probably never crossed his mind. In fact, Johns passed away a long time before AC/DC ever played their first note (73 years and three months to be roughly exact); even longer before Dennis Cometti laid down Bloke On The Run to tape in a shed in WA’s south west in the summer of 2021.

“Moondyne Joe may be an obscure character outside of Western Australia, but Dennis Cometti believe that our state’s greatest escape artist deserves a proper look in. Ned Kelly? Never heard of him.”

Dennis Cometti (The Band) deals in short, sharp rock warts ‘n’ anthems about life in the world’s most remote city. In 2020, the band released their debut, self-titled album featuring the unofficial Western Australia succession anthem, “WAXIT”. With the WA border shut indefinitely at the time, “WAXIT” soundtracked glossy nightly news and A Current Affair packages about the state breaking free of the Australian Federation. Even the ABC’s election analyst Antony Green suggested the official WAxit party adopt the single as their anthem. The track was RTRFM’s most played song of 2020 and they also picked up a WAM award for best punk/hardcore act that same year.

Since then, the boys have toured some of Western Australia’s finest venues with the likes of Kim Salmon, Cosmic Psychos and The Chats who also took ‘em on their very first international tour earlier this year.

Dennis Cometti will be blokes on the run around Australia in January. Their headline tour kicks off with a couple of dates on the West Coast then shoots over to the East. After that, expect a new album from Western Australia’s finest self-appointed urban sociologists.

Interview with Josh & Hazel Meyer (Those Who Dream)

Those Who Dream are an Australian alternative rock duo and multifaceted creative project of siblings Josh and Hazel Meyer. Their captivating energy and revealing lyrics has not only earned them the acclaim of Pop Buzz, Rock Sound and Alternative Press; but more importantly, a cult-like following across the world. The Meyer siblings are as DIY as it gets, citing “YouTube tutorials” as their teachers of filmmaking, 3D animation, design, songwriting and production. The sum of these talents can be best seen in the duo’s extravagant music video for their breakout single #Violet, featuring surreal and eerie visuals reminiscent of psychological-horror films. Growing up perpetually fascinated by art in all of its forms; the siblings quickly learnt to channel their own struggles and emotional turmoil into creative expression. After creating individually and experimenting in bands, it quickly became apparent that their best work was created together. Now, it seems their hard work is paying off, with the group touring this year with Mayday Parade, Real Friends and Short Stack, and set to perform at all three Good Things Festival events in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in December.

Interview with Joel Vanderuit (Kisschasy)

Kisschasy are an Australian rock band whose music varies from catchy pop to emo-tinged ballads to hard rock. A fateful meeting took place between Darren Cordeux (vocals, guitar) and Joel Vanderuit (bass) in the crowd at the 2002 Warped Tour. The two youths had both been tinkering with bands of their own, but inspired by the world-class music all around them, they decided to start fresh with a new band: Kisschasy. Two of Vanderuit's friends joined them — Sean Thomas (guitar) and Karl Ammitzboll (drums). Their first recordings were the 2004 EPs Darkside/Stay Awake and Cara Sposa, released on indie label Below Par Records. A year later, they recorded their debut album, United Paper People, a gentle pop/rock record. Over the next two years, songwriter Cordeux worked on two albums' worth of songs for their next release. One set was made of country-tinged songs that he described as “Lemonheads-y,” with the rest being heavier rock numbers. The band decided to go with the louder songs and released Hymns for the Nonbeliever in 2007.

Recently Joel had a chat with STMs Kynan about what we might expect from their appearenne at Good Things Festival next weekend.
