Dialling up the fun this August and September, Teenage Joans and Between You & Me are proud to announce the1800-Painless co-headline tour, with 17 regional dates locked and loaded across Australia this August and September.

Launching the 1800-Painless run, Teenage Joans and Between You & Me will kick proceedings off on Friday 9 August in Adelaide, before heading to Scarborough, Bubury, Belgrave, St Kilda, Hobart, Geelong, Ballarat, Albury, Canberra, Wollongong, Penrith, Newcastle, the Central Coast, the Gold Coast and Maroochydore, and wrapping up festivities on Saturday 7 September in Coffs Harbour.

“The Between You & Me x Teenage Joans tour is honestly SO overdue! We are so keen to finally be on the road with our BYAM mates!” – Teenage Joans

“We cannot wait to get on the road with TJ’s, it’s been a long time coming and now it’s finally happening. We are grabbing the sleeping bags and going regional, this tour is going to be in-tents but painless” – Between You & Me

Forming in 2018 as literal teenagers, Teenage Joans, aka Cahli Blakers and Tahlia Borg, would go on to nab the triple j Unearthed High crown in 2020 while also insatiably charming audiences around the country over the years with their self-professed “juice-box punk-pop” sonic stylings. Having previously shared stages with the likes of Foo Fighters, Amy Shark, Violent Soho, Ball Park Music, The Chats and many more, the duo have also continued to establish themselves as firm festival faves, with appearances at Spin Off, Yours & Ours, UNIFY Gathering and beyond.

From their debut EP, 2021’s Taste Of Me which saw the group snag seven South Australian Music Awards, through to their acclaimed 2023 debut full length album, The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest, which was triple j’s feature album and performed a cover of Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe in Marchfor triple j Like A Version to recently teaming up with Frank Turner on Girl from the Record Shop. Teenage Joans consistently weave musical magic via their engaging indie-pop-punk creations and compelling live performances.

Evolving from YouTube acoustic covers to cementing their place as rising stars in the Australian alternative scene, Between You & Me blend influences that span blink-182, Foo Fighters, Hanson and many more. Armed an inescapable zest that has seen the group tour with the likes of You Me At Six, Knuckle Puck, State Champs and Slowly Slowly, Between You & Me wield pop punk and pop-inflused alt rock, resulting in endlessly infectious songs that incite joy time and time again.

Releasing their latest EP, SH!T YEAH, earlier this year, Between You & Me are also in command of two studio albums, 2018’s Everything Is Temporary and 2021’s Armageddon, as well as their 2016 debut EP Paper Thin. Boasting loads of riffs and relatability, SH!T YEAH showcases the group firmly in command of their sonic identity, with their latest material also begging to be heard in a live setting.

Don’t delay, secure your spot today for the 1800-Painless tour this August and September!

Jeremy DePoyster’s favourite The Devil Wears Prada songs to play live and why

Jeremy DePoyster, guitarist and vocalist from The Devil Wears Prada, is all set to head to Australia this August as the band teams up with Alpha Wolf for the Half Living Things tour. With shows in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle, and Brisbane already sold out, and just a few tickets left for Adelaide and a second Sydney show, the buzz is real. This year has been huge for TDWP, with new music releases that fans are loving. Jeremy’s been sharing some awesome stories lately, adding to the excitement of their return Down Under.

Below Jeremy dives into his favourite The Devil Wears Prada songs to play!

Salt
Salt is probably one of my favourites to play live, just because it’s always the loudest. Everyone knows the words to that song and they’re always extremely loud. That’s always a cool moment when everyone’s screaming the words at the top of their lungs.

Sacrifice
Sacrifice is also a fun song because we always have a part at the very end of it where we stop, and then everyone self-creates a wall of death. That’s kind of turned into a thing and it’s absolute chaos!

Chemical
I like Chemical because it’s an emotional release for us, and it feels like it for the crowd as well.

Broken
I like to play the song Broken for a similar reason to Chemical. It’s a really personal song in a lot of ways, and it’s a nice reevaluation of things like, “am I doing better or worse right now?”. I’m not always used to figuring that out in the middle of the show, but hey, you play the cards that you’re dealt!

Danger: Wildman
And I like to play the song Danger: Wildman, just because that is one of our really early songs and it’s just fun. It reminds me of the good old days.

Get ready to witness metal history in the making! Killswitch Engage, legends of modern heavy music, are set to bring their intense, soul-shaking live show to Australia this September.

You can count the number of acts in the last twenty years that have influenced and inspired entire sub genres within the heavy music scene.

Killswitch Engage are at the top of that list.

The three-time Grammy-nominated, platinum-selling heavyweights revitalised a stagnating metal scene in the middle of a stale decade for heavy music with the release of both 2002’s
Alive of Just Breathingand 2004’s, The End Of Heartache.

Combining soaring, heartfelt vocals with guttural anguished growls set against a powerful mix of groove metal, hardcore and old school traditional heavy-metal-harmony, Killswitch Engage set a new standard, were heralded as a true innovators and spawned a million copy cats.

None however, could match Killswitch Engage for their sheer authenticity and pure musical skill.
Over the next two decades, Killswitch Engage rose to the top and delivered eight studio albums, three live ones and played every festival that exists.

Their Australian fans have been there from the start. The bands first foray down under was way back in 2004 opening for Soilwork and Anthrax which marked the start of an enduring love affair with their army of fans. An army who have not experienced Killswitch Engage live in Australia for 6 long years. Their last visit in 2018 alongside Parkway Drive and Thy Art Is Murder!

While the band are here in September opening for the one and only Iron Maiden in monstrous arenas, they are also going back to their roots with three very intimate shows in Frankston, the Gold Coast and Newcastle that promise a visceral, sweat-drenched experience.

Supports for each show include the recently reformed Feed Her To The Sharks for Frankston: Dark, oppressive death metallers, Descent for the Gold Coast and hardcore merchants Dropsaw will play in front of their hometown crowd in Newcastle.

This is your chance to see Killswitch Engage up close and personal, a rare opportunity to witness one of metal’s greatest in an intimate setting. Tickets will fly off the shelves, so don’t hesitate to secure your spot and prepare for a night of top tier heaviness!

Yours Truly Share New Single ‘California Sober’ & Sophomore Album ‘TOXIC’ Due Out August 16

A soul-baring ode to being present in the moment, the brand new single California Sober out today from Sydney alternative trio Yours Truly is an empowered and engaging step closer to the group’s upcoming sophomore album, with TOXIC set for release on August 16 via UNFD.

Raw yet polished and loaded with forward-thinking pop punk hooks, California Sober finds Yours Truly‘s Mikaila Delgado taking another star turn with power-laced confessional lyricism amplified alongside sharp drumwork and emphatic guitars.

“California Sober was written during the same period as Sour,” the band shares. “We’d started working on Sour – we were getting nowhere with it. We had a bit of a breakdown; we were crying and talking about things.”

“We were mucking around, playing guitar, and Mikaila started singing about when you come over and your friends are stoned; just sitting there, not wanting to do much. It’s all good and fun, but you can’t enjoy other people’s company and think “I’m not good enough to hang out with”.”

“California Sober is the essence of trying to be present with your friends and loved ones. You don’t have to just put on this facade, this mask, and hide yourself away.”

From their 2020 album Self Care scooping up an ARIA nomination for Best Hard Rock or Heavy album, to boasting massive international performances, millions of streams and an ever-growing legion of global fans, Yours Truly remain transfixed as one of the most exciting young bands on the scene courtesy of their striking songwriting and dynamic live performances.

Never ones to stagnate or rest on their laurels, in 2022 Yours Truly catapulted their previous trademark pop punk style into a new stratosphere via their EP is this what i look like?. Armed with raw honesty and heightened influences, is this what i look like? explored moments of pop punk and introspection while also forging an amalgamation of organic yet unexpected new sounds, emerging as an irresistible exploration into heightened rock, emo and dance-ready sparkle woven into the Yours Truly DNA.

With their name now firmly cemented on a global scale, Yours Truly retain their versatility moving into their sophomore album chapter while also expanding beyond any stylistic confines or expectations. Produced by Ocean Grove‘s Sam Bassal and mixed by Daniel Braunstein (Spiritbox, Dayseeker), TOXIC ultimately nods to the fun pop-punk essence of earlier Yours Truly works while also demonstrating a boldness to step forward and explore heavy rhythms and, at times, darker direction. Via TOXIC, Yours Truly arrive at their most open, visceral and engaging material to date, with themes of anger, desperation, sadness and exhaustion forming alongside sanguine acceptance and self-awareness.

Spending 2023 touring Europe alongside You Me At Six, ticking off their first ever UK headline shows, supporting Against The Current in North America and touring Australia nationally with Neck Deep, Yours Truly kicked off 2024 with an appearance at THPS25 in Brisbane, celebrating 25 years of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater with Tony Hawk himself in attendance, as well as embarking on their entirely sold out Call My Name Tour across Australian in March. Yours Truly will also return overseas later this year, appearing at Reading and Leeds Festival in the UK this August alongside headliners Blink-182, Fred Again, Lana Del Rey, Liam Gallagher and many more.

Dropkick Murphys Announce First Australian Headline Tour In Over A Decade With Alkaline Trio.

Attention Australian punk rockers! We have a huge announcement for you. Two of the most influential and enduring American punk rock bands are heading down under together this November. Boston’s rock ‘n’ roll underdogs turned champions DROPKICK MURPHYS announce their first Australian headline tour in over a decade with Chicago’s rock canons ALKALINE TRIO.

The tour will kick off at AEC Theatre in Adelaide on Friday 15 November before it makes it way to The Forum in Melbourne, Sydney’s Roundhouse before closing their Australian run at Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane on Friday 22 November.

This marks DROPKICK MURPHYS’ return to Australia since last appearing at Good Things Festival in 2018 and ALKALINE TRIO‘s first Australian shows in 10 years!

Since 1996, DROPKICK MURPHYS have created the kind of music that’s meant to be chanted at last call, in packed arenas, and during the fourth quarter, third period, or ninth inning of a comeback rally. Their celebrated discography includes four consecutive Billboard top 10 album debuts (Turn Up That Dial, 11 Short Stories Of Pain & Glory, Signed and Sealed in Blood, Going Out In Style), along with 2005’s Certified-Gold album The Warrior’s Code featuring the double platinum classic I’m Shipping Up To Boston. DROPKICK MURPHYS’ music has generated half-a-billion streams, they’ve quietly moved 8 million-plus units worldwide and the band has sold out gigs on multiple continents.

In more than 25 years together, ALKALINE TRIO have delivered urgent punk blasts with a dark, driving edge that helped them remain commercially viable without sacrificing their raucous spirit and created their own little universe in their songs with a few short steps away from armageddon. Their music has been a reliable black mirror of reality. Slowly ascending through the Warped Tour ranks into the early 2000s, they reached the Billboard Top 20 with 2003’s mainstream breakthrough Good Mourning. They hit a peak with their seventh set This Addiction, which topped the US rock, alternative, and indie charts in 2010.

They kicked off the year with the release of their monumental tenth album, Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs. It’s been five years since the beloved punk stalwarts have released an album and to commemorate hitting the big ten milestone, they went back to basics stripping their sound down to the bare essentials of the sonic identity that endeared them to a generation of punk fans. They enlisted Grammy-winning producer Cameron Webb and spent several weeks holed up at Studio 606 in Northridge, California, the private recording space owned by Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters. With more than two decades and ten records under their belts, ALKALINE TRIO’s legacy in the rock canon, as well as their influence on their genre, is undeniable.

2024 will undeniably declare punk rock is not dead – be sure to see DROPKICK MURPHYS and ALKALINE TRIO this Novemberwhen they bring their explosive, high energy live shows down under. Tickets won’t last long.

Public Enemy to Return to Australia to kick off their ‘On The Grid 35th Anniversary Tour’

Public Enemy to Return to Australia to kick off their ‘On The Grid 35th Anniversary Tour’
The rap revolutionaries will return this October
for a national tour with guests A.B. Original.

Hall of Fame inductees, Hip-Hop revolutionaries, and social rights activists Public Enemy have today announced a much-anticipated return to Australia to commence their ‘On The Grid 35th Anniversary Tour’ this coming October. Fighting the power with them across the country will be none other than Australian hip-hop duo, A.B. Original.

The tour kicks off October 2 at Perth’s Red Hill Auditorium before hitting up the AEC Theatre in Adelaide on October 4, John Cain Arena in Melbourne on October 5, the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney on October 9, Newcastle Entertainment Centre on October 11, before heading to Brisbane’s Eatons Hill Outdoors on October 12.

Telstra Plus will have an exclusive presale from 10am (local time) on Friday 28 June, with the General Public Onsale at 10am (local time) on Tuesday 2 July.

Public Enemy was formed in 1985 in Long Island, New York, by friends Chuck D and Flavor Flav and their debut album, Yo! Bum Rush The Show (1987), laid the foundation for their revolutionary sound, blending assertive beats with sharp social commentary. Commencing as an opening act for the Beastie Boys, it was their sophomore effort, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back (1988), that catapulted them to international fame, helping them to collect a long list of accolades including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. Their 1990 album Fear of a Black Planet gave us the raucous Black anthem that defined a nation, “Fight the Power.”

Beyond their musical contributions, Public Enemy‘s impact extends to their activism and cultural influence. They were, and remain, at the forefront of the fight against racial injustice and inequality, using their platform to raise awareness and spark meaningful dialogue. From ground-breaking music videos to candid interviews, the group remains unapologetically vocal about issues affecting the community.

A.B. Original is the collaboration between artist, activist and author Briggs and MC and multi-ARIA Award-winning producer Trials. Indigenous artists from Yorta Yorta and Ngarrindjeri country respectively, A.B. Original are known for their fearless address of racial, societal and systemic injustice. Their purpose is to stand, call out and challenge the status quo of Australia, and provide truth-telling through First Nations’ perspectives on history, society and the Australian national narrative.

This mighty union of Long Island’s finest and A.B. Original will touch down in October.

[Review] The Tea Party – Enmore Theatre, Sydney 21/06/2024

Enmore Theatre in Sydney was buzzing with excitement as The Tea Party arrived to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their album TRIPtych. The gentlemen from Windsor, Ontario, swiftly reminding everyone why they’ve remained a staple in the rock scene for so long and why Australia has an ever-growing affinity for their self proclaimed ‘Morrocan-roll’.

The packed show kicked off with The Halcyon Days, instantly pulling the crowd into a nostalgic trance. Jeff Martin, with his signature charisma, greeted us, “It’s been a long time between drinks, Sydney, and we have a lot to catch up on, but for now, let’s just play some rock and roll.”.

From the moment they launched into The Bazaar, the crowd was hooked. The seamless blend of Underground with Lou Reed’s Walk on The Wild Side put a lot of smiles on dials, showing off the band’s knack for mixing things up. A personal highlight was when Martin paid homage to Jeff Buckley with Last Goodbye before diving into The Messenger, a touching highlight that left us in awe. I am consistently blown away by the similarity of their live performance to recorded. A friend informed me after the show that the band refuses to practice; they just come out of the gate and play a show like this! Wow!

The middle of the set saw The Tea Party delivering intense performances of Gone and These Living Arms, while the medley of Save Me and Samsara mesmerized. And who could forget the mash-up of Heaven Coming Down and U2‘s With or Without You? The transition was much better received than in earlier performances, which had split fans down the middle and were heckled by some. This time, however, most fans sang along and enjoyed the moment.

Jeff Martin made reference to how talkative he can be at shows and joked that he was called out in a recent review about it. The fans quite obviously love it, as he is met with chants of support ‘speak up Jeff!’. Perhaps this comment got into his head, because if you didn’t know in advance, you would never know it was an anniversary tour as there was very little mention of the TRIPtych album itself. It’s especially odd considering this anniversary tactic has been the basis of their tours for the past half-decade, likely due to the lack of new albums.

While tracks from TRIPtych were performed, parts of the album were cut in favor of usual crowd-pleasing classics, it was a slight shame not to hear the full album. Similarly, fans of the band’s 2004 album Seven Circles, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, were left begging for a track or two.

Temptation wrapped up the main set with a burst of energy, Martin giving the audience a chance to take over vocals for a moment, before leaving the crowd hungry for more. The encore was pure magic. Kicking off with Winter Solstice on the actual winter solstice date was a perfect touch. But the real showstopper was Sister Awake, which they blended with covers of The Rolling Stones’ Paint It Black and David Bowie’s Heroes. It was a powerful finale that had the entire theatre on their feet, singing along.

With only two shows left on this tour—June 23 in Thirroul and a sold-out performance at Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane on June 25—the opportunities to see The Tea Party on this run are dwindling.

Tonight’s performance at the Enmore Theatre was more than just a concert; it felt like a reunion with old friends. The band took us on a journey through their hits, mixing in surprises that kept the night exciting and memorable. As the final notes rang out and the lights came up, it was clear that The Tea Party still holds a special place in the hearts of their Aussie fans, old and new.

The first 70 names of this year’s BIGSOUND showcase lineup have today been announced, with some of the world’s finest performers making the bill. From Peking Duk’s Keli Holiday and Y.O.G.A projects, to Alex the Astronaut, dust, Dear Seattle, Sly Withers, Stand Atlantic, Gretta Ray, PEPTALK, total tommy, Noah Dillon and far beyond, Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley music precinct will come alive with the sounds of blooming talent from 3-6 September.

Chosen from more than 1200 applicants, BIGSOUND Music Programmers Casey O’Shaughnessy and Katie Rynne have selected the 2024 line-up to perform this year to the music industry’s keenest eyes.

“It has been such a privilege getting the opportunity to program the BIGSOUND 2024 line-up. We are blown away by the calibre of artists that applied this year, and we’ve discovered so many amazing new artists in the process,” say O’Shaughnessy and Rynne of the selection process for the festival lineup.

“While it was challenging to whittle it down to the final showcasing artists, we are so grateful to the First Nations Advisory Group and the extended Program Advisory Group that we worked with to help us create this year’s final line up.”

As a major catalyst in the next generation of music, BIGSOUND’s artist showcases have helped to project the careers of globally renowned performers and recording artists like Rufus du Sol, Gang of Youths, Lime Cordiale, Tash Sultana, DMA’s, A.B. With artists hailing from all states and territories, as well as from regional and remote communities, and international locations, the 2024 festival line-up is stacked with some of the brightest names rising in Australia’s music scene; The Belair Lip Bombs, fresh from wrapping up their 2024 UK and EU Tour, ARIA-charted Rowena Wise, and post-punk outfit, dust, just off the back of an Australia-wide support slot with Interpol & Bloc Party, and heading to Europe again for Interpol’s 20th Anniversary Tour in Europe later this year.

The Peking Duk boys have been a united household name in Aussie dance music for the past decade, but each will rep their solo project Y.O.G.A. and Keli Holiday at this year’s BIGSOUND festival, alongside fellow Sydney-sider pop punk outfit Stand Atlantic, stellar Meanjin duo JUNO and Sunny Coast noisemakers Sex Mask.

The spotlight will shine brightly on Australia’s First Nations Talent, with performances from Maanyung, Ray Dimakarri Dixon and Kiwat Kennell to name a few and with more to come.

NO CIGAR, Dick Move, Paige, Park RD, Reiki Ruawai and DARTZ are crossing the waters from New Zealand/Aotearoa, with a huge array of artists from some of the nations’ capital cities including Melbourne/Naarm’s Garage Sale and MUDRAT, Sydney/Warrang’s Cap Carter and Georgia Mooney and the ACT’s own Sonic Reducer.

Perth/Boorloo’s Fool Nelson and Dear Sunday will take to the stage with BIGSOUND’s home of Brisbane/Meanjin showcasing the likes of sunbleached, Medhanit and Prink. Repping Adelaide/Tarndanya is Swapmeet and DIVEBAR YOUTH, plus Ray Dimakarry Dixon coming from Marlinga/NT.

With rising costs battling the persistent need to boogie, BIGSOUND are this year offering $25 one-night Music Festival tickets for music lovers under 25 years of age, and $75 three-night Music Festival tickets for those that get in early and purchase before 31 July. These tickets are on sale from Tuesday 25 June, alongside all-access Delegate passes via BIGSOUND.org.au.
