Splendour In The Grass – Artist Replacements and Set Times

With less than a month until we return to North Byron Parklands / Ngarindjin for the 21st edition of Splendour in the Grass, the festival is pleased to announce the exciting artists set to replace Slowthai and Rainbow Kitten Surprise this July, as well as reveal the playing times so you can get your festival schedule sorted…

Joining the Splendour 2023 lineup is one of hip-hop’s most animated and inventive artists Danny Brown! With his hyperactive flows, harrowing lyrics and boundary pushing beat selections, the Detroit rapper will have the Mix Up Stage heaving when he takes over on Friday for an exclusive Australian performance. One of the most sought-after global performers, Danny Brown’s career is the uncompromising work of a virtuosic talent who understands how to use his unique personality as a vicious instrument. There is the lingering sense of paranoia, the requisite survivor’s guilt and anxiety, but also hysterical punchlines and party anthems built to cause speakers to crumble into ashes. With reflection and celebration in each performance, Danny Brown will hit Australia fresh off the release of his collaborative album SCARING THE HOES with JPEGMAFIA

Thelma Plum will also be gracing Splendour, bringing her stunning live show to the GW McLennan Stage on Sunday. Plum will perform tracks from her latest EP Meanjin which captured hearts, garnered multiple ARIA nominations, and landed two spots in triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2022 with ‘Backseat of my Mind’ and ‘The Brown Snake’. The Gamilaraay woman, musician and creator released her debut album Better in Blak in 2019. The record is a story about culture, heritage, love and pain and captures what it’s like to be a young Aboriginal woman in Australia. Better in Blak became one of the most successful albums of 2019, nominated for 7 Arias and spawning 3 Platinum and one Gold singles. The title track came in the top 10 of the Triple J Hottest 100, the highest result ever for an Indigenous artist at the time, as well as winning the prestigious Vanda and Young “Song of the Year” award.

As for who will be replacing Lewis Capaldi, with news of his cancellation so recent the Splendour team are currently working through options and will have an update as soon as possible.

Splendour in the Grass 2023 | Lineup Announcement

Start planning your party outfits and wheel out the birthday cake, Splendour in the Grass is turning 21!! Australia’s premier Music and Arts festival is returning to its beloved home at Ngarindjin / North Byron Parklands from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 July for 3 days and nights of hella good times dedicated to music lovers, and the lineup is finally here! Hold on to your party hats as a ‘uge bunch of international musicians and DJs, and an incredible host of homegrown talent, get ready to descend on the Amphitheatre, GW McLennan and Mix Up stages for Splendour’s 21st edition!

Combine a dollop of the biggest and most innovative stars of electronic sounds, a dash of pop royalty, a heaping of folk and indie rock pioneers, a sprinkling of global names of hip hop, top it off with an exclusive anniversary set, and the recipe for Splendour’s 21st birthday cake is sounding extra scrumptious. Made with the freshest ingredients from some of the biggest international talent touring the world right now, a pour of Australia’s most prolific acts, plus a squeeze of exciting emerging artists and Splendour 2023 has one helluva crew ready to light up North Byron Parklands with you for the 21st time!

Electronic music titan Flume will make an exclusive Australian appearance at Splendour 2023! His Amphitheatre take over will celebrate 10 years since his self-titled debut album broke records (and speakers!) across Australia, launching the now iconic producer into the stratosphere with billions of streams worldwide and Platinum sales in multiple countries. The exclusive milestone performance follows Flume’s recent surprise release Things Don’t Always Go The Way You Plan featuring music culled from stashed away laptops and hard drives. His third studio album Palaces was completed during the pandemic after returning home to Australia, reflecting on this transition as he reconnected with nature. The thought-provoking project garnered international praise, received six ARIA Award nominations and a J Award nomination for Album of the Year. The record also features Flume’s second Hottest 100 #1 Say Nothing feat. MAY-A – only one other artist has ever earned the top spot twice! Flume has headlined major international festivals including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Lowlands, Governors Ball and gave a celebrated main stage performance at Coachella in 2022. He has come a long way since his humble Splendour debut as a changeover artist at Mix Up in 2012, fast forward to now and he is global headliner, has a GRAMMY Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album on his shelf (a total of four GRAMMY Award nominations to his name), and we’re getting ready to celebrate 10 years of Flume with a mammoth Amphitheatre set! The iconic producer will only celebrate this milestone one other time at The Forum in LA, so don’t miss the historic occasion!

Some fourteen years ago, a few young men from London formed a band. It was a happy accident, with nothing unusual about how they formed; shared musical interests, an interest to both make and perform music whatever the occasion and this comparatively unique passion for community and collaboration. They called their band Mumford & Sons, and have jokingly regretted it ever since. You can’t get everything right! Breathe in, let’s go: Number 1 albums around the world. GRAMMY Awards. BRIT Awards. Ivor Novello Awards. Q Awards. Billboard Awards. Sold out arena tours. A debut US stadium tour. Festival headline slots. Bob Dylan’s backing band. Backed by Bob Dylan. John Fogerty’s backing band. Backed by John Fogerty. Shared riffs with Tom Morello. Adventures with Baaba Maal. Trips to Senegal. South Africa. Europe. America. South America. Japan. Australia. New Zealand. Asia. Gentlemen of the Road; their own community-minded, self-curated festivals. Wilder Mind. Babel. Sigh No More. Delta. A massive, massive success. Breathe out. Mumford & Sons will play Lollapalooza Stockholm before bringing their captivating live show down under exclusively for Splendour in the Grass 2023.

It’s Lizzo’s world, we’re just living in it! There’s no denying that Lizzo has shifted the sound, soul, and spirit of popular music and culture. She's maintained unstoppable momentum since 2019’s now-classic, RIAA platinum certified debut album, CUZ I LOVE YOU, and she’s got 4 x GRAMMYs and an Emmy in the poolroom to show for it. Lizzo hits Splendour with her biggest, boldest and brightest revolution thus far: her hugely adored second full-length offering Special. The album saw Lizzo receive 5 nominations at the 65th Annual GRAMMY Awards with lead single About Damn Time taking out the coveted title of Record Of The Year. Get ready to dance when Lizzo makes her Splendour debut in July. It’s about damn time!

And there’s so much more! You’ll be sharing your Splendour 2023 weekend with:

Fixture of Australian club culture, Torren Foot will get the dancefloor moving ahead of Duke Dumont, that’s following a set from new anonymous project Tseba, opening the shows in Sydney and Melbourne with its fine balance of nascent electronic music and the familiar sounds of global pop and dance.

Sadly Tired Lion are no longer available for YUNGBLUD’s tour across the country, however rising popstar and social media phenomenon Peach PRC will be now joining the larrikin instead with her raw lyricism and carefully cultivated style. Mia Rodriguez will kick off proceedings ahead of Oliver Tree, showing up with her unapologetic attitude, unwavering ambition and infectious dark-pop sound. Easily one of Australia’s most adored dance acts Set Mo will bring their impressive live set to SOFI TUKKER’s shows in Melbourne and Sydney, while female duo WIIGZ join the fun too, with their electrifying blend of disco, funk, soul and pop in tow. That’s as Golden Vessel takes to sold out crowds – opening Still Woozy’s shows with his unique blend of electronic, hip hop, R&B and alternative pop influences.

Experimental Brisbane artist Yb. is set to grace the stage ahead of Biig Piig taking over with her confessional, genre fluid pop, as Liyah Knight performs her evocative music  ahead of Joy Crookes. Sweet and savoury four piece The Buoys will join Wet Leg at their sold out SITG sideshows. Wet Leg fans can get a double dip of the band of the moment when they support Yeah Yeah Yeahs at their Splendour sideshows too.

This huge host of special guests accompanies the previously announced news that pub punk legends The Chats and psychedelic rockers The Lazy Eyes will join The Strokes on their sold out tour, while Benson is all set to get audiences pumping with his wild and infectious personality ahead of Dillon Francis’ shows.
