HIATUS KAIYOTE SHARE NEW SINGLE ‘TELESCOPE’

HIATUS KAIYOTE SHARE NEW SINGLE ‘TELESCOPE’

NEW ALBUM LOVE HEART CHEAT CODE
DUE JUNE 28TH VIA
BRAINFEEDER RECORDS / NINJA TUNE

‘expansive and psychedelic’
– Pitchfork

‘Apacious and ebullient…. Another giant leap for Hiatus Kaiyote.’
– The Guardian

‘An undeniable showcase of the band’s vast musical range and talent for arrangement.’
– NPR

‘Through bright textures and sunlit Brazilian rhythms, it scores a trek from darkness to light’
– The New York Times

‘An intoxicating confidence.’
– The Observer

[Thursday 2, May, 2024] Following the announcement of their forthcoming album, Hiatus Kaiyote return to share a new single ‘Telescope’. The third track from Love Heart Cheat Code due Friday 28th June via Brainfeeder Records / Ninja Tune, ‘Telescope’ is a reflection of the collective’s personal as well as otherworldly inspirations.

On ‘Telescope’, the band transports listeners to an intimate crux in the universe to find solace in their shared musicality. Speaking on the track’s significance Bender (bass) shares, ‘NASA has a website where you can type in your birthday and then it will tell you the most interesting thing that the Hubble telescope took a picture of on your birthday. And so each of the four verses is based on our four birthdays.’ Bender’s heavenly object was Abell (2744); Simon’s the Einstein Ring; Nai’s the ‘Red Pearl on the face on Jupiter,’ and Pez’s a nameless star that exploded with a light many times brighter than our sun. Musically, the song was triggered by Simon’s play with a patch from a 1980s-era synthesiser, Sequential Circuits’ Prophet 600.

Love Heart Cheat Code is a snapshot of four musicians dancing together on the edge, 11 playful, exuberant tracks that shine light. Yet, for a band that made a name for itself with its complexity and received critical praise and multiple Grammy nominations for their embrace of maximalism, one of the most striking things about Love Heart Cheat Code is its simplicity. ‘I’m a maximalist. I complicate fucking everything,’ Nai laughs. ‘But the more you go through things in life, you become more relaxed and uninhibited. Sometimes you can still have depth and reach people and really stop dancing around the fact: What do you want to communicate to people? And I feel like this album is a result of that clarity for us. We didn’t need to spell out complexity if the song didn’t call for it.’

On the forthcoming album, the band’s direction is not always attained directly; less deliberate, and more via deliberation and drift: in jam sessions that last late into the night and early mornings; in meals shared; in messing around with equipment and with each other. The album also features other Melbourne-based musicians like Taylor “Chip” Crawford, who played an instrument of his own invention called the frello; guitarist Tom Martin; and flautist Nikodimos; and the unprecedented addition of a very important creative force: Mario Caldato, whose work with the Beastie Boys and Seu Jorge is the stuff of legends.

Hiatus Kaiyote have always spoken about their albums as microcosms, a complete ecosystem. On Love Heart Cheat Code the band envisioned a strong visual world to coincide with the music and they worked with Sri Lanken-born, Toronto-based multimedia artist Rajni Perera using one of her paintings as the artwork for the album. Illustrator Chloe Biocca and Grey Ghost then collaborated with the band to create visual symbols and associated artifacts for each of the tracks on the project that pair alongside Rajni’s painting. The artifacts morphed into real products, custom jewellery, edible goods, ranging from the inspired to the haunted and utterly random. Eventually this led the band to conceive of an entirely imagined place, a Love Heart Cheat Code supermarket. The band; its employees who create these products, market them, stack the shelves, clean the aisles. In the banality of creating art into ”‘product” for the modern world, the band find solace in each item and song as they are packed with transcendent and resplendent musical magic.

Throughout the album, Hiatus Kaiyote emphasises sensing rather than knowing, a type of trust that can only be brought through creative harmony and hours of studio sessions. The result is a wide-eyed, cohesive, yet relaxed body of work that reflects a deeper understanding of themselves and the music they wish to share with the world around them.

Yours Truly Announce Brand New Album ‘TOXIC’ Due Out August 16 & Shares New Single ‘Sour’

YOURS TRULY
ANNOUNCE BRAND NEW ALBUM TOXIC
DUE OUT FRIDAY 16 AUGUST

BAND SHARES NEW SINGLE SOUR

Come and sink your teeth into the dazzling new era for alternative luminaries Yours Truly, with the Sydney trio today announcing their brand new album TOXIC, set for release on Friday 16 August via UNFD. Pre-orders for TOXIC will go live on May 2 at 9:00am AEST.

With their name now cemented on a global scale, Yours Truly journey even further into their trademark versatility on their forthcoming sophomore album chapter, expanding beyond stylistic confines and expectations. Effusive and effervescent one moment, dark and damaging the next, TOXIC runs the spectrum of human emotions across its 10 tracks. Led by a star turn from vocalist Mikaila Delgado, the album is an open-vein, open heart diary of personal crisis, a dynamic yet cohesive soundscape of pop and rock, indie and alternative shimmering and shuddering beneath Delgado’s cathartic confessionals: in short, it’s a lethal dose of brilliance from one of the scene’s brightest musical acts.

Following up from the brooding pulse of Call My Name, latest single Sour serves up captivating hooks for days on a platter of irresistible staccato swagger.

“Sour was written during a session after I was feeling extremely burnt out,” shares vocalist Mikaila Delgado. “We had come off extensive touring and quite a turbulent time not only for the band but personally as well. I was just feeling so bitter towards everything and trying to force writing when it just wasn’t naturally flowing made me so angry. We got to a stage as a band where we had a lot of people in our ear telling us what to do and how they thought we should do it. I just thought “fuck this, this is our fucking band, I’m going to do what I want!””

Sour follows on from Yours Truly‘s most recent single Call My Name, with the latter praised by Kerrang! for its catchy wiles as well as spending multiple weeks in triple j’s Most Played list. Adopting modernised pop punk stylings alongside themes of self discovery, Call My Name seamlessly leads into Sour‘s powerhouse qualities, with both offering a tempting peek into what lies in wait on TOXIC.

Polished, precise and hauntingly vulnerable, Yours Truly catapulted their previous trademark pop punk style into a new stratosphere via their 2022 EP is this what i look like?. Armed with raw honesty and heightened influences, is this what i look like? explored moments of pop punk and introspection while also forging an amalgamation of organic yet unexpected new sounds, emerging as an irresistible exploration into heightened rock, emo and dance-ready sparkle woven into the Yours Truly DNA.

From their 2020 album Self Care scooping up an ARIA nomination for Best Hard Rock or Heavy album, to boasting massive international performances, millions of streams and an ever-growing legion of global fans, Yours Truly remain transfixed as one of the most exciting bands on the scene courtesy of their striking songwriting and dynamic live performances.

Spending 2023 touring Europe alongside You Me At Six, ticking off their first ever UK headline shows, supporting Against The Current in North America and touring Australia nationally with Neck Deep, Yours Truly kicked off 2024 with an appearance at THPS25 in Brisbane, celebrating 25 years of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater with Tony Hawk himself in attendance, as well as embarking on their entirely sold out Call My Name Tour across Australian in March. Yours Truly will also return overseas later this year, appearing at Reading and Leeds Festival in the UK this August alongside headliners Blink-182, Fred Again, Lana Del Rey, Liam Gallagher and many more.

Darkthrone Release Video For “The Bird People Of Nordland” New Album, It Beckons Us All, Out Now

DARKTHRONE
Release Video For “The Bird People Of Nordland”
New Album, It Beckons Us All, Out Now

To accompany the release of the eagerly awaited new album, ‘It Beckons Us All’ from Darkthrone, the band release the official lyric video for “The Bird People Of Nordland”.

Watch here
https://youtu.be/0Zjmk-POXyo

Video created by Matthew Vickerstaff .

Whilst freely admitting the concept for the song “Not a very metal subject, sorry!” Fenriz explains “ it’s about the EIDER bird and Nordland. Many years ago I saw a Norwegian documentary with the symbiotic relationship the coast people of Nordland had with the bird. They watched over the nests and in return could pick the eider for pillows clothing, warmth etc. So that is what the lyrics are about.” But, he continues “again, this is Ted’s song so a bit hard for me to comment on it musically but I will tell you all what I think when I hear it:

First of we have a typical grim Ted riff for the verse, then he surprises with a catchy riff for the refrain AND THEN comes my fave part of the album; the post-refrain riff which sounds like Queensryche 1984 style and you can also hear how much we enjoy to play it! EXACTLY where I want to be! Could have played that riff for 8 minutes straight, haha! This loops again with the refrain again without singing and then back to Queensryche ’84. Then first riff again with my added harmony guitar playing on it, what our studio man Ole Øvstedal called “the Corleone part”.

A break arrives and then things are sped up (not faster than Yardbirds in 64, we are not an extreme metal band, more like MODERAT EPIC) which corresponds with a slower heavy metal riff where we also brought out the mellotrone if I remember correctly.

Then Ted bombs you with a final part, primitive d-beat thrash with a riff that sounds like Tom G Warrior made it and I also ordered Ted to lay on some hellish guitars. Anyway, I LIVE for that queensryche 84 riff, Ted!”

Humble as ever Nocturno Culto states “Well, AGAIN, talking about our music really blows or is very difficult, at least for me. Personally, music is a floating thing, and I am having a hard time to try to break it down. It´s metal, a bit of heavy/doom/black/thrash, that is Darkthrone now, mixing genres has been something we have done since A Blaze, and especially since 2005. And I am just looking forward on new material, new riffs and ideas.”

It Beckons Us All, Darkthrone’s new masterpiece, is unleashed in full .. finally!

PALLBEARER Release Second Single ‘Endless Place’ From Eagerly Awaited New Album, MIND BURNS ALIVE

PALLBEARER Release Second Single Endless Place From Eagerly Awaited New Album, MIND BURNS ALIVE

PALLBEARER have released a second song from their highly-anticipated new album, Mind Burns Alive (May 17, Nuclear Blast Records), with today’s arrival of the deeply moving ‘Endless Place,’ complemented by a visually striking black-and-white companion video.

Endless Place,’ which features the band’s first ever musical collaboration (a saxophone solo from Norman Williamson of Amasa Hines), encapsulates the thematic essence of the album, as described by Brett Campbell: “These are vignettes which tell the stories of people who deal with myriad sicknesses of the spirit. These are illnesses communicated by the world we live in, and the subjects are the symptoms of its disease.” The dreamlike scenario that enfolds in ‘Endless Place,’ both lyrically and musically, is one focused on a sense of being lost, disjointed, trapped by unease and confusion.

Five years in the making, with recording initially slated for 2020, and thwarted yet again in 2022, it was 2023 that saw the band members living locally to one another in Little Rock for the first time in nine years. As a group, they self-produced the album in their own, newly constructed studio (Idlewild Audio) and at Fellowship Hall Sound. Reflecting on this, bassist/vocalist Joseph D. Rowland remarked, “It’s ironic given that the album is largely centered around isolation, but it felt like it summoned us into being back together again in one town, after so long apart.

Album pre-orders, which include limited-edition vinyl, CD and digital, are available now: https://pallbearer.bfan.link/mind-burns-alive

In their review of Forgotten Days, Pitchfork described the foursome’s music as “soaring majesty on an album that find a new way forward by refining their past,” Stereogum dubbed the collection as “warm and melodic and comforting,” while Revolver said the songs are “sweeping and melancholic” living “between the majesty of vintage Black Sabbath and the morbid romanticism of Type O Negative.” Decibel, who have featured the band on their cover multiple times, declaring the band’s unique musical vision as “intense, emotional thunder.

Deep Purple To Release New Album ‘=1’ on July 19 via earMUSIC

DEEP PURPLE
One of the greatest rock bands of all time to release new album
‘=1’ on July 19 via earMUSIC

‘It all adds up to 1’

One of the greatest and most influential rock bands of all time releases new album ‘=1’,
on July 19 via earMUSIC.

The first single will be unveiled on April 30 at midnight, a taster for the full 13 tracks of pioneering and rip-roaring rock ‘n’ roll. Deep Purple continue their charge of recent years, releasing hit albums and filling arenas around the world, adding yet more layers to their 100 million album selling legacy.

The band are credited as one of the key originators of heavy rock and have constantly progressed their boundaries of music. They are fronted by the legendary Ian Gillan, whose vocals have defined generations, accompanied by the masterful bassist Roger Glover, the powerhouse drummer Ian Paice, and the maestro on keyboards Don Airey. This is the band’s first album with sensational guitarist Simon McBride, who seamlessly slotted in when longtime member Steve Morse left due to personal circumstances. Since 2022, Simon has already played to Deep Purple audiences totaling more than half a million people.

But Deep Purple is more than just their members and ‘=1’ embodies the essence and attitude of their 1970s incarnation possibly more than any other album in recent memory. With the legendary Bob Ezrin once again producing, the record evokes the pioneering band’s classic sound, without relying on nostalgia.

The enigmatic title ‘=1’ symbolises the idea that in a world growing ever more complex, everything eventually simplifies down to a single, unified essence. Everything equals one.

Its full meaning will be revealed in the coming weeks, with the artwork also playing its part. Fans have already been speculating after mysterious equations and depictions of multiverses appeared in London, Paris, and Berlin in recent days.

With three consecutive No.1 albums in their back pocket and a resurgent new energy powering them forward, this is Deep Purple at their pinnacle. ‘Now WHAT?!’ (2013), ‘inFinite’ (2017), and ‘Whoosh!’ (2020) have sold over one million copies worldwide, making Deep Purple one of the most successful rock bands currently active. The latest studio album, “Whoosh!”, reached #1 on the album charts in 7 countries and charted in the top 10 in another 12.

About Deep Purple

There simply aren’t enough superlatives to properly acknowledge the contribution Deep Purple has made to rock music. Having sold more than 100 million albums and filled global arenas for decades, there’s little wonder that the respected British radio station Planet Rock named the group the ‘5th Most Influential Band Ever’. The band were also presented the‘Legend Award’ at the 2008 World Music Awards and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. Deep Purple truly are ‘rock royalty’.

With a body of work spanning seven decades, Deep Purple has helped pioneer and define the hard rock genre while progressively moving into new areas, both keeping their sound fresh and attracting new fans to the legions who have remained loyal since the band’s inception. The celebrated MKII line up of Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore were responsible for creating many of the defining rock albums of the early 70’s, including “Made In Japan”, universally accepted as one of the most important and influential live albums of all time.

Known as one of the hardest working bands ever, Deep Purple has continued to release No.1 albums and tour globally since forming in 1968, with little rest. In 2007 (almost 40 years after being formed), the band performed 40 dates in France to an award-winning audience, and they continue to spend much of their year on the road selling out arenas across the globe.

Deep Purple has stayed true to its musical roots taking from an eclectic mix of styles to create a distinctive sound that defines the band today, but which in turn, has created a legacy that very few bands could ever hope to replicate. The band has written and produced so many “classic,” well-known songs, that its audience range widely in age and background – something the band has readily embraced.

Deep Purple’s recent studio album, “Whoosh!” (2020), followed their worldwide chart-topping albums “inFinite” (2017) and “NOW What?!” (2013). 2024 sees the release of their brand-new album “=1”. On all albums, Deep Purple joined forces with producer Bob Ezrin, who has worked with the likes of KISS, Pink Floyd, Lou Reed and Alice Cooper.

Furthering their collaboration with Ezrin, in 2021 and during the pandemic the band recorded a collection of cover songs from their own homes (normal for most bands nowadays, revolutionary for a band that records everything together in the studio), creating an eclectic and celebratory history of their roots in music, in the shape of ‘Turning To Crime’.

In 2022 came the sad news of Steve Morse’s departure due to personal circumstances, but Deep Purple, never a band to let a set back throw them off course, sought out the masterful skills of guitarist Simon McBride and played the year out in style, exciting crowds with a new energy and excitement.

Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Don Airey and Simon McBride continue with renewed vitality, pushing the boundaries of hard rock to audiences around the globe, proving that Deep Purple are very much here to stay.

In Hearts Wake Announce Brand New Album ‘Incarnation’ Due Out July 12 & Share New Single/Video ‘Hollow Bone (pl ɹoʍ ǝɥʇ)’

IN HEARTS WAKE
ANNOUNCE BRAND NEW ALBUM
INCARNATION
DUE OUT JULY 12

SHARE NEW SINGLE/VIDEO
HOLLOW BONE (plɹoʍ ǝɥʇ)

TOURING NATIONALLY THIS SEPTEMBER

Today In Hearts Wake manifest a brand new chapter, announcing their sixth studio album, Incarnation, which will be released on July 12 via UNFD. This news follows the recent bittersweet announcement of long-time bassist and clean vocalist Kyle Erich‘s departure.

Speaking on the upcoming album, vocalist Jake Taylor shares:

“INCARNATION is the shadow counterpart and sequel to the band’s debut album DIVINATION, with each song inspired by the meaning and ideals of a particular Major Arcana Tarot card. There are 22 Major Arcana Tarot cards in every deck and 11 tracks on each record, bringing the vision to completion 12 years later.”

“But much like a coin with two sides, cards flipped upside down deliver the reversed meaning,” Taylor continues. “Polarised in every way, INCARNATION explores the dark underbelly to mirror and stand diametrically opposite to DIVINATION.”

In Hearts Wake have also dropped an official Incarnation Tarot-themed website that fans can visit throughout the album rollout for access to behind the scenes, sneak peaks at new music, exclusive info, and Incarnation announcements. For more info, visit https://incarnation.inheartswake.com/.

The hotly-anticipated follow up to 2020’s Kaliyuga, which debuted at #3 on the ARIA Album Charts, Incarnation is equally a powerful yet poignant step forward for the Byron Bay-hailing group, heralded today by the release of the fiery new single Hollow Bone (plɹoʍ ǝɥʇ).

Balancing spitfire guitars and searing textures, Hollow Bone (plɹoʍ ǝɥʇ) is a gripping ride that ricochets with polish and heaving dexterity, while also ultimately soldering the In Hearts Wake transformative spirit as vocalist Jake Taylor bellows “This cage is not my home.”

“Going through a death-of-sorts with Kyle having left the band, Hollow Bone became our reclamation anthem for the band to live on,” In Hearts Wake explain of their brand new single. “Since high school we’ve given everything and we weren’t about to give up. Not yet…”

“Picking up the microphone as a group, together we delivered a melodic chorus for the first time. We used actual bones as percussive instruments – symbolic of death’s transformation. This track acting as our stake in the ground. What would you die for?!”

Hailing from Byron Bay and now one of the leading acts in the Australian heavy scene, In Hearts Wake first roared into view via their 2012 debut album Divination; a tarot-inspired release, praised for its memorable breakdowns, melodic hooks, taut execution and a sea of features. Remaining a fan-favourite to this day, Divination also set the stage for a horde of headline shows, international tours, and appearances at Soundwave Festival, UNIFY Gathering, Groovin The Moo and beyond for In Hearts Wake.

Having previously released five hard-hitting albums, including 2014’s Earthwalker, 2015’s Skydancer, 2017’s Ark and 2020’s Kaliyuga, In Hearts Wake also routinely fuse themes of social and environmental justice into their palpitating brand of metalcore, with millions of streams and a dedicated fanbase across the globe flourishing alongside the band’s environmental endeavours, with the latter witnessed most recently via the 2022 feature-length documentary Green Is The New Black.

Boasting an ARIA Award-nominated soundtrack, Green Is The New Black focused on the making of Kaliyuga and In Hearts Wake‘s successful efforts to carbon offset the entire recording process. Critically-acclaimed, the film also explored the music industry’s relationship to the environment, generating an important conversation and viable solutions for the creative arts against the odds of the pandemic years.

Recently appearing at UNIFY Off The Record in 2023 and wowing audiences across Australia with their Decade Of Divination tour last year, In Hearts Wake now turn their gaze to a brand new album in 2024, and are also set to celebrate and farewell their journey to date with long-time bassist and vocalist Kyle Erich this September with a special Australian headline run that spans Newcastle, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

In conjunction with announcing Erich‘s departure, In Hearts Wake also recently released a new single Farewell, with the track fittingly bringing to a close the monumental chapter for Erich and In Hearts Wake.

SHEPPARD ANNOUNCE THEIR FOURTH STUDIO ALBUM ‘ZORA’ COMING OUT ON JUNE 21

SHEPPARD ANNOUNCE THEIR FOURTH STUDIO ALBUM ‘ZORA’ COMING OUT ON JUNE 21, 2024

PLUS RUN OF USA HEADLINE AND FESTIVAL SHOWS

PRE-ORDER ALBUM HERE

ALBUM VISUAL ANNOUNCEMENT HERE

Australian pop superstars, Sheppard, today announce one of the most anticipated records of 2024. Zora, their fourth studio album, will be released worldwide on June 21st on the back of their move to Nashville, a run of headline shows in the US and the tenth anniversary of their global mega-hit Geronimo which has gone viral once again.

As one of Brisbane’s most successful bands of all time, Sheppard are enjoying a renaissance with recent singles lighting up charts on five continents while a new generation on social media discover the hits that have seen the sibling trio become certified 34 x Platinum and cross two billion streams worldwide.

Zora is the first studio album for the band since 2021’s Kaleidoscope Eyes (ARIA #2), 2018’s Watching the Sky (ARIA #1) and their debut LP in 2014, Bombs Away (ARIA #2). Preceded by the singles Good Time, Daylight, Dance on the Sun and Edge of the Earth, Zora contains 16 tracks that explore themes of resilience, hope, despair and strength, all underpinned by Sheppard’s trademark brand of anthemic pop designed to be turned up loud.

Band front man George Sheppard explains, “the album revolves around the rejuvenating nature of light and that no matter how dark life at times can feel, a new sunrise is just around the corner. Throughout any family ordeal or crisis (which no doubt every family goes through), we constantly look up to our Croatian Baba (grandma) whose name is Zora. Life has thrown her some monumental curveballs, but the way she’s always kept a smile on her face, shown nothing but love, positivity, and hope for the future in the face of tragedy is something we’ve always admired about her. This led to us consciously focus on gratitude and finding the positive in our own moments of crisis or loss. Instead of writing sad songs of self-pity and despair, we decided to set out to craft an album that was authentic to our emotion and real-life experiences, but could still be fun, uplifting, anthemic, and most importantly – hopeful.”

The stunning album artwork was brought to life by ARIA-nominated artist Giulia Giannini McGauran (Tones and I, Lime Cordiale) and graphic designer, Steve Lees, and was recently shot in icy waters off the coast of Melbourne.

Sheppard are currently back in Australia for the an iconic performance on the Great Barrier Reef as part of the Savannah on the Reefline-up this Saturday, before they return to the US for a string of shows in Texas, New York, Boston, Washington and Philadelphia. Following these five shows, they will head back to New York for a coveted slot at Summerstagein Central Park. European and Australian tour dates will be announced soon.

When asked how the name of the album came about, Amy Sheppard, herself an emerging successful solo country music artist who currently has the Number One ‘Independent Single on the US Country Radio Charts’ said, “in a way of honouring our Baba and paying some homage to our Croatian heritage, we decided to look up what “Dawn” was in Croatian. Incredibly, the word for “Dawn” in Croatian is “Zora”; our grandma’s name. It was a moment of serendipity that couldn’t be ignored. The album name had found us. Our hope is that Baba’s legacy of gratitude and love in defiance of anguish will live on in our music. That Zora will stand as a beacon of light for anybody who might feel like all is lost. A timely reminder that darkness is only temporary, and soon a new sunrise will arrive to paint the sky with colour once again.

Zora was largely written in Brisbane, LA and Stockholm by George and Amy Sheppard alongside long-time collaborator and founding Sheppard member, Jason Bovino. The new anticipated new album will be released on June 21st on compact disc, limited edition yellow double vinyl, limited edition yellow cassette, streaming and digital download. It is available for pre-order now from HERE!

Sheppard are George Sheppard (lead vocals, guitar), Amy Sheppard (lead vocals, keys) and Emma Sheppard (bass, backing vocals).

Cloud Nothings Release New Album

CLOUD NOTHINGS
RELEASE NEW ALBUM
FINAL SUMMER OUT NOW

SHARE COMMON MISTAKE MUSIC VIDEO

“…the kind of melodic, hard-hitting, no-bullsh*t indie rock that has become Cloud Nothings’ calling card — a sound that has helped them endure through several hype cycles to become one of the most consistently rewarding bands in their scene.” – Stereogum

“Whenever there’s a new Cloud Nothings record, you can rest assured that it will be great.” – Uproxx

“…at their most anthemic.” – BrooklynVegan

“The band’s energy level never slackens throughout Final Summer, and the entirety of the record’s half-hour run time sounds massive…” – FLOOD Magazine

Cloud Nothings‘ highly anticipated new album, Final Summer, is out now from Pure Noise Records! The record has already garnered attention from the likes of Pitchfork, NPR, Stereogum, Rolling Stone, Paste, BrooklynVegan, Uproxx, FLOOD Magazine, and more, and continues the band’s nearly 15 year streak of unimpeachably fantastic guitar rock music.

Final Summer is the kind of album that’s so assured, so instantly satisfying, that it forces you to pause and realize you’re listening to one of the great American rock bands in their prime. Now listeners can hear the record in full and experience the inventive riffing, effortless hooks, and earthshaking guitar tones that prove exactly why every Cloud Nothings release is downright essential. To celebrate, the band have shared their new music video for Final Summer‘s triumphant closer, Common Mistake.

Cloud Nothings – made up of vocalist/guitarist Dylan Baldi, drummer Jayson Gerycz and bassist Chris Brown – have evolved from scrappy lofi upstarts into a guitar music institution, churning out incredible songs at a rate and level of quality that few can compare to. Recorded with Jeff Zeigler (Kurt Vile, The War On Drugs, Torres, Purling Hiss), mixed by Sarah Tudzin (boygenius, Tim Heidecker, Pom Pom Squad), and mastered by Jack Callahan (Ryley Walker, Merchandise, Wolf Eyes), Final Summer offers their finest set of songs to date, perfectly capturing the mix of melody and noise that makes Cloud Nothings so special. Clocking in at a lean 29 minutes, the album is bursting with the unbridled joy that comes from playing guitars and drums loudly. This is not the work of a scrappy new band cramming all of their ideas into a debut album or grizzled veterans grinding through another release: it’s one of the tightest and most invigorating rock bands active today, driven to make the best version of themselves.

Cloud Nothings will be touring extensively in support of Final Summer, starting with a lengthy North American headlining tour in May.

ABOUT CLOUD NOTHINGS:
Some bands never miss. This rare breed consistently puts out great records every couple years, avoiding the lengthy hiatuses or egregious sonic missteps that often come with achieving longevity. It’s an often unsung reliability, as few realize how truly remarkable it is to put art into the world at this rate without letting the quality slip. For nearly 15 years, Cloud Nothings have continued to hit the target, steadily becoming a part of the fabric of modern indie rock as we know it with a run of fantastic albums. This streak continues unabated with their latest full-length, Final Summer–an album that’s so assured, so instantly satisfying, that it forces you to pause and realize you’re listening to one of the great American rock bands in their prime.

Formed in 2009 by guitarist/vocalist Dylan BaldiCloud Nothings evolved over the years from a one-man lo-fi project into a finely tuned unit also composed of drummer Jayson Gerycz and bassist Chris BrownCloud Nothings, over so many years and so many records (nine or ten “depending on how you look at it,” laughs Baldi), have existed long enough to witness all sorts of musical moments come and go, but the secret to their endurance isn’t about savvily navigating trends. “We’ve just never felt inclined to stop,” Baldi explains. “It’s not like this makes us millions of dollars, but it’s a great gig, it’s what we love to do.” Gerycz adds, “It’s just still so fun every time we do it, every time we go get in the basement and start writing.”

And it shows. Recorded with Jeff Zeigler (Kurt Vile, The War On Drugs, Torres, Purling Hiss), mixed by Sarah Tudzin (boygenius, Tim Hiedecker, Pom Pom Squad), and mastered by Jack Callahan (Ryley Walker, Merchandise, Wolf Eyes), Final Summer is bursting with the unbridled joy that only comes from playing guitars and drums loudly. This is not the work of a scrappy new band cramming all of their ideas into a debut album or grizzled veterans grinding through another release: it’s one of the tightest and most invigorating rock bands active today, driven to make the best version of themselves. “I just like making things,” says Baldi. “I love having something that I’ve made by the end of the day, even if it’s just one song. It’s like proof that my day happened. I’m just always trying to refine the thing we do, which is to make songs that take you from one place to another.”

Very few bands take listeners on that kind of journey within a hooky rock song as effectively as Cloud Nothings, and the album’s opening title track proves exactly why. A wash of crackling synths sets the scene before the band roars to life with a cutting riff and Gerycz’s driving beat. From there, it’s layer after layer of interlocking melodies and guitar lines, all rising action while Baldi lays out the album’s overarching lyrical ideas. “It’s about feeling alright in the moment,” Baldi says. “A lot of these songs sort of ended up being about getting by or trying to keep improving despite everything.”

His lyrics often take on a mantra-like quality, using repetition and a one-of-a-kind delivery to dig something deeper out of observations about the mundane or frustrating parts of life. On early Final Summer standout I’d Get AlongBaldi repeats “if something would happen with me…” over and over, each time adding to the tension before the track’s truly massive chorus explodes with a cacophony of fuzzed-out guitars and a howling “I’d get along.” Throughout the record, Cloud Nothings strike their trademark balance of inventiveness and accessibility, with every track full of hooks but also the kinds of details and twists that reward repeat listens. The Golden Halo feels like a two-minute-long chorus, hook after hook careening forward with a motorik beat and ever-growing sea of voices, while elsewhere songs like Mouse Policy or Running Through The Campus take very literal ideas and spin them into something else through walls of thick bass and thunderous distortion.

On Final Summer closer Common MistakeBaldi sings, “This is your life, it’s a common mistake. We’ll be alright, just give more than you take.” It’s the kind of deceptively direct lyric that he excels at, a clear and real sentiment filtered through a melody that’s stuck in your head before the end of the first chorus. The line could almost be an accidental mission statement for the band itself: a group that creates with a workman-like commitment, providing listeners with something authentic and artful at an unflinching pace. Cloud Nothings don’t miss, and you won’t want to miss them either.
