Plini Announces Australian 2023 Tour

Summer’s comin’, and what better way to melt into the warmer months of a new year than with an Australian tour from guitar lord Plini. Announcing a seven-date run covering Sydney, Newcastle, Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, Plini will be bringing his astonishing live show alongside some very special guests, Canadian prog metallers Protest The Hero and Melbourne’s I Built The Sky.

“We started booking this tour about one minute after we finally got to do the triple-postponed headline tour last May – the excitement for playing gigs again is back in full swing! Super stoked to have one of my all-time favourite bands (Protest the Hero) joining us, as well bestie Dave Mackay from the UK joining my band on keys for the tour. If there are any notes left to be played at the end of the night, we will have failed…” – Plini Accompanying the exciting tour news today, fans can catch a glimpse of the magic in-store next January and February with a live music video for Plini‘s track Papelillo out now, shot back in June at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre during Plini‘s run supporting Northlane‘s Obsidian Tour.

After two years of waiting patiently, Plini sprang back into action in 2022, with back-to-back sold out headline tours of Australia, India and Scandinavia, festival appearances in Australia, UK, Germany and Portugal, and performing in some of Australia’s finest theatres supporting Northlane

To celebrate what finally feels to be the proper return of live music, Plini and his impeccable live collective will embark on their biggest Australian tour production yet, in January and February of 2023.

Plini and co will be joined by the inimitable Protest The Hero (Canada), returning to Australia for the first time since 2017 and Melbourne’s I Built The Sky – guaranteeing an evening of mind-bending musicality from all angles.

Welding technical metal with post-hardcore flair, Ontario-hailing quintet Protest The Hero have evolved from teenage underground sensations into one of the most forward-thinking bands in the heavier realms. Their debut 2005 full-length Kezia set the scene for a sharp and ever-evolving sonic trajectory, Now an award-winning band in command of millions of streams and a legion of fans, Protest The Hero‘s explosive live show has seen them tour with the likes of Coheed and Cambria, August Burns Red, Between The Buried And Me, In Hearts Wake and Closure In Moscow.

I Built The Sky, the brainchild of guitarist Rohan Stevenson, has been releasing self-produced instrumental guitar music since 2012. Fusing complex arrangements, catchy melodics and shredding guitarwork, I Built The Sky ranges from thunderously progressive to intimately acoustic, and everything in between. Previously touring with the likes of Caligula’s Horse, Twelve Foot Ninja, Circles and many others at home and abroad, I Built The Sky is a must-see for any prog, guitar, or riff fan.

Gig ReviewsReviews

[Review] Northlane @ Enmore Theatre, Sydney 23/06/2022

While standing in the crowd of Northlane’s sold-out show at Enmore Theatre, you can see how many people's ears’ around Australia pricked up when Northlane announced they would be touring the country again, as brought to us with many thanks to the remarkable team at Destroy All Lines.

You can see how much Northlane has grown as a band over the years, having become a universal band across many different groups of people across all of Sydney with an extremely diverse fanbase, possibly the most diverse fanbase we’ve seen at any metal gig.

The anticipation was building while Plini played as the supporting act right before Northlane came on. Northlane showed their support for Plini in return by bringing out a birthday cake onto the stage for Plini, to blow out his candles as the entire venue sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to both the bands on stage together.

Plini performed a dreamy melodic sound with heavy jent tones building into strong metal riffs and back again into the melodic softness. You could see the crowd really appreciated them with hands in the air and cheers of support throughout their set and ending with a huge cheer from the entire crowd.

As Plini finished up their set you could feel the eagerness growing in the crowd for what was to come next. The venue was buzzing with energy. Fans who didn’t know each other began asking each other about what they hoped would be played as part of the set and you can’t help but sense how sorely missed Northlane has been in the Sydney crowd for the past few years.

The first song played on the night can sum up the vibe of the entire show with the first 89 seconds of the opening song ‘Clarity’ from their new album Obsidian sounding off with building techno music with dreamy melodic vocals before erupting into heavy metal at 90 seconds in; opening the first pit of the night with the pent up energy of every Northlane fan who had been waiting years to see them live since the pandemic and what came through, was wall to wall explosive energy.

As the futuristic light show illuminated the entire venue with coloured lasers flying over heads into the back wall of the venue with coloured smoke floating in the purple lights with flame cannons launching into the air, Northlane led the show forward with their next song ‘Plenty’ and it was exactly just that, plenty. Within the first 30 seconds of the song, the crowd exploded again, feeling into the music as much as the band was.

Northlane gave their all to the crowd for the entire duration of the show and the crowd gave it right back, with Marcus Bridges sounding even better live than he does on the record, with the crispest cleans and deepest growls we’ve heard from him yet.

Echo Chamber” was the third song of the night and it fully delivered on the techno-neon show expectations Northlane shared with fans as their intentions for the tour with impeccable production value delivered throughout the show.

Nic Pettersen was playing the drums tighter than a bank safe even per the new drumming style that their new album, Obsidian, called for him to adopt.

Our favourite Northlane hits such as Bloodline from ‘Alien’ and Quantum Flux from album ‘Singularity’ played into the night and as they did, every fan there lived their old-time favourites that made Northlane the deeply loved band they are today. The crowd also followed the charge into the techno-metal future that Northlane is leading with their latest album Obsidian as they explore and pioneer a new space in the metal genre.

The show finished up with everyone in the venue calling Northlane back out to the stage for an encore and the final song played was ‘Clockwork’.

The entire show consisted of techno elements that were supported by the mind-blowing futuristic neon light show that all seamlessly tied in perfectly with the notes of Jon Deiley and Josh Smith on the jent guitars, rocking the entire venue wall-to-wall.

Each song surpassed the quality of the recordings that made us all love them, making this gig something unmissable for every Northlane fan out there.

MONOLITH FESTIVAL will forge ahead in August/September 2022.

Today, Destroy All Lines is announcing that the festival’s dates have had to be re-scheduled.

Destroy All Lines issued this statement: “The move of the festival dates is due to Western Australian borders and capacity limits in certain cities. Whilst a lot of these limits and rules have now become more relaxed, factors such as council approvals for festival sites, production, vendors and more, have to be booked well in advance during a very uncertain period, meaning that in order to be certain these events went ahead, the dates had to be pushed back. This means a new venue in Melbourne, but we are very excited about running the show at Port Melbourne Industrial Centre for the Arts (PICA), and we are also super stoked that all artists have been confirmed for the new dates. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but we are very excited and proud to be able to be bringing this almost once-in-a-lifetime festival line-up to Australian audiences in 2022!

The festival line-up remains the same, but now will take place in August 2022 – Saturday 13 August at Eaton’s Hill Outdoors in Brisbane, Saturday 20 August at Bella Vista Farm in Sydney, Saturday 27 August at PICA (Port Melbourne Industrial Centre for the Arts), Melbourne and Saturday 17th September at Red Hill Auditorium, Perth. All dates are outdoor venues and all Existing Tickets remain valid, no action required. General tickets are on sale now at destroyalllines.com.

There are no prizes for guessing why there was palpable excitement about Monolith Festival when it was announced in late 2021. It will be the very first time in SEVENTEEN YEARS that Aussie Rock legends Karnivool and COG will tour together on the same line-up!

Heading up the line-up is Karnivool – with their acclaimed debut, Themata, the groundbreaking follow-up, Sound Awake, and the Aria winning #1 album Asymmetry, Karnivool has established themselves as one of the most vital global forces in progressive modern music. Karnivool has gained high praise from international press titans such as Rolling Stone, Billboard Magazine, Kerrang! and Rocksound. A rare sight to see them on a festival line-up, it’s even more special when it has them reuniting for the first time in 17 years with long-time musical brothers, COG!

Since their return in 2016 after their critically acclaimed albums The New Normal and Sharing Space and subsequent 5-year hiatus, COG has been immersing themselves in their craft with renewed vigor, already having a plethora of new ideas and structures from which to draw new material. Since they released 'The Middle' in 2018 – the first new material released by COG in ten years and 'Altered States' and 'Drawn Together' followed, each song providing further proof that although Cog had lost NONE of their firepower.

Rounding out the seven-band line-up is the enigmatic/eccentric Ocean Grove, the guitar mastery and groove-laden riffs of Plini, the post-rock power and majesty of sleepmakeswaves, the outright force of nature that is Reliqa, and the up-and-coming instrumentalists Yomi Ship opening up proceedings.

MONOLITH FESTIVAL tickets are on sale now at destroyalllines.com. All current ticket holders' tickets remain valid, no action is required.
