L.A. Guns are back and firing on all cylinders. If I close my eyes I am transported straight back to the eighties, and boy do I like it! It may have been a long time in the making but it has definitely been worth the wait. Produced by Tracii Guns, The Missing Peace is LA Guns eleventh studio album and is due for release on 13th October 2017 through Fronteirs Records.
It has been a long time between drinks but they are back with a vengeance delivering some killer tracks, with the opener It’s All The Same To Me blowing your socks off with its catchy riffs and raspy vocals. It has been a long fifteen years since powerhouse duo Tracii Guns and Phil Lewis have worked together, but with the quality of this album you can forgive them the lengthy intermission. The first single Speed was released back in July, its gritty and rocky and shows that they mean business right off the bat. A Drop Of Bleach and Sticky Fingers both have the classic L.A. Guns feel and are right at home on this album. The ballad Christine is good but not great as far as ballads go.
We hit half way through with Baby Gotta Fever and Kill It Or Die, the latter in particular a stand out with its funky groove that mixes things up a bit and works really well. With a title reminiscent of the eighties, Don’t Bring A Knife To A Gunfight has a killer opening and gritty lyrics that set it apart from the other songs on this album. The Flood’s The Fault Of The Rain is another slower track but a much better offering than the earlier ballad. It has some great guitar solos, and is quite soothing to listen to.
If I could pick a track to open the album with it would be The Devil Made Me do It, it is an awesome song with a chant throughout that rocks like no other on the album. I believe it was worthy of the number one position and is my favourite of the twelve that make up this kick arse collection. But just when you think you are down to the ‘filler’ part of the album along comes The Missing Peace and blows that theory clear out of the water. It is an extraordinary song with some beautiful guitar work, a bounding power ballad that one can only describe as epic in all proportions.
The closer Gave It All Away is a cracker to round out this fabulous new release, with a nice acoustic opening that leads into some cool guitar work by Tracii and faultless vocals by Phil. The perfect way to end this monumental album that will leave the fans feeling extremely satisfied.
Would I listen to this album again? Hell yeah, its on high rotation and will be for a while to come!
