THY ART IS MURDER Announce Australian Tour

Thy Art Is Murder have announced the Human Target Australian Tour, set to pulverise the continent in September. Joining them for a masterclass in extreme metal excellence will be Carnifex (US), Malevolence (UK) and I AM (US).

Originally set to take place in the wasteland that was 2020 – before being forced to pull the pin completely in 2021 – the Human Target Australian Tour has been a long time coming from our purveyors of brutality. Released in 2019, Human Target foreshadowed the dire reality we are living in 2022 where hyperactive virtue signalling, extremism and disenfranchisement serve as a distraction while our planet staggers toward an inevitable climate disaster that we are now witnessing in real time.

Supporting Thy Art Is Murder will be Californian crushers Carnifex, returning to Australia for the first time in over 11 years (!!), as well as Malevolence, who are currently reigning supreme as the UK’s most hyped metal band of 2022, and no-nonsense ‘Texas Metal’ kings I AM.

Thy Art Is Murder are presently at the tail end of a massive 32-date North American tour, leaving a trail of sold out shows in its wake. By the time they arrive back on home soil, they’ll be match fit and raring to go.

Warning: the Human Target Australian Tour will be your last chance to see Thy Art Is Murder in 2022 before we lose them to the Northern Hemisphere where they’ll see out the year on tour with Lamb of God and Kreator. Tickets will move quickly so don’t hesitate to grab them before the sold out signs appear.

Tickets on sale now at thyartismurder.net

Thus far, they have picked up over twenty gold and platinum RIAA certifications, tallied 5 billion streams, and garnered a pair of GRAMMY® Award nominations in the categories of “Best Urban Contemporary Album” for the gold-certified mixtape You Should Be Here and “Best R&B Performance” for the platinum single Distraction.

Beyond blockbuster collaborations with Cardi B, Justin Bieber, Post Malone, Kiana Ledé, Teyana Taylor, and Kyle, they have appeared on soundtracks such as Suicide Squad: The Album, The Fate of the Furious: The Album, and more. Along the way, they’ve received the “Rule Breaker Award” from Billboard Women In Music and performed at Voodoo Music + More, Coachella, and beyond. They reached a critical and creative high watermark with their sophomore offering, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t. It not only bowed at #2 on the Billboard Top 200, but also concluded 2020 on over a dozen year-end lists from Billboard, Esquire, Hypebeast, Nylon, Seventeen, Spin, Stereogum, The Guardian, and many more. Now, they’ve welcomed everyone into the rapture of their third full-length album, blue water road [Atlantic Records], introduced with the singles altar and little story.

PIXIES New Album DOGGEREL To Be Released September 30th

Definition of doggerel (daw-ger-uhl): loosely styled and irregular in measure especially for burlesque or comic effect also : marked by triviality or inferiority – Merriam-Webster

The iconic Pixies forged an influential path for alt-rock during their first era, while their post 2004 reunion has seen them alchemize more sophisticated dark arts – a return which has them add another three UK Top 10 albums to the three they achieved on their first run. Now as fired up as ever before, Pixies will release their eighth studio album ‘Doggerel’ on September 30th via BMG, which is now available to pre-order HERE. They launch the album alongside its lead single ‘There’s a Moon On’.

‘Doggerel’ is a mature yet visceral record of gruesome folk, ballroom pop and brutal rock, haunted by the ghosts of affairs and indulgences, driven wild by cosmic forces and envisioning digital afterlives where no God has provided one. And all the while, right there on the news, another distant storm approaches.

Guitarist Joey Santiago says, “This time around we have grown. We no longer have under two-minute songs. We have little breaks, more conventional arrangements but still our twists in there.”

Vocalist/guitarist Black Francis adds,  “We’re trying to do things that are very big and bold and orchestrated. The punky stuff, I really like playing it but you just cannot artificially create that shit. There’s another way to do this, there’s other things we can do with this extra special energy that we’re encountering.”

That energy shimmers in the album’s new single ‘There’s A Moon On’, which fits into the space between prototype squalling Pixies guitars and heartland rock classicism. Thematically it plays somewhere between fact and legend, playing upon the adrenalizing effect of the lunar cycle on the human psyche, a phase during which the drunks in Francis’s brother’s bar become more aggressive.

A congregation between darkness and beauty consistently emerges throughout the record. There’s ‘Haunted House’, a spirited concoction of ‘50s-flavoured pop with ghosts both literal and metaphoric, as well as the brooding Morricone desert rock of ‘Vault of Heaven’, and a breezy folk-rock melody on ‘Pagan Man’. But Pixies still possesses a ferocious edge, one that feeds into the grinding intensity and surrealism of ‘Nomatterday’ and The Who-like power of ‘Dregs of the Wine’, which will surely be the first and last Pixies song to namecheck Van Halen.

It’s a record with an unusual genesis. Instead of building upon rough ideas in the studio, Black Francis turned up to sessions with 40 songs prepared. Sessions started late in 2021 with producer Tom Dalgety (Royal Blood, Ghost) working with Francis in Massachusetts, before they headed to LA to finish tracks with the rest of the band.

Their input would be vital. Santiago contributed his first two Pixies songwriting credits, with music for ‘Dregs of the Wine’ and lyrics for ‘Doggerel’. Meanwhile, drummer David Lovering and bassist Paz Lenchantin’s performances have the uninhibited energy of two musicians who both confess to feeling reinvigorated by the process.

In addition to digital / streaming formats, ‘Doggerel’ will also be issued in a variety of physical configurations. There will be a range of gatefold colour vinyl options: the standard red vinyl, a yellow vinyl will be available exclusively from select independent stores, and an orange vinyl that is only available from the Pixies’ official store – which also offers an exclusive red cassette. The formats are completed by a deluxe CD.

If 2014’s ‘Indie Cindy’ was conceived as a belated continuation of ‘Bossanova’ (1990) and ‘Trompe Le Monde’ (1991) and 2016’s ‘Head Carrier’ revisited some of the murky melody and exotic gristle of ‘Surfer Rosa’ (1988) and ‘Doolittle’ (1989), both ‘Beneath The Eyrie’ (2019) and ‘Doggerel’ are expansive and unfettered albums that leave behind any sense of expectation. They are records evolved from, but not beholden to, Pixies’ past.

‘Doggerel’ tracklist:

‘Nomatterday’
‘Vault of Heaven’
Dregs of the Wine’
‘Haunted House’
‘Get Simulated’
‘The Lord Has Come Back Today’
‘Thunder & Lightning’
‘There’s A Moon On’
‘Pagan Man’
‘Who’s More Sorry Now?’
‘You’re Such A Sadducee’
‘Doggerel’

Australia is set to be one of the first countries to hear songs from ‘Doggerel’ live with Pixies returning in 2022 for their mammoth – Come On Pilgrim… It’s Surfer Rosa tour. The tour will bear witness to both seminal albums being performed in full – plus new and old tracks spanning their extensive catalogue.

Fans had better get in quick with most shows sold out and only a handful of tickets remaining for Sydney Opera House Forecourt, Sunday 4th December and Fremantle Arts Centre, Sunday 11th December.

Interview with JOHN CORABI

Journeyman, stalwart, or just The Mayor of Rock ‘n’ Roll, John Corabi certainly needs no introduction.

As the voice of The Scream, The Dead Daisies, Union, and ESP but perhaps most notably, as the voice of Motley Crue during their brief departure from life with Vince Neil in 1994, anything featuring the raspy vocals of JOHN CORABI cannot be mistaken.

On the eve of the release of his autobiography “Horseshoes and Hand Grenades”, in which he recounts his life from the streets of Philadelphia to the Sunset Strip and beyond, JOHN CORABI brings his intimate solo acoustic show to Australia for the first time in what can be considered a career retrospective of sorts.

Fans can expect to hear Corabi perform music from all stages of his career intertwined with stories and anecdotes that only JOHN CORABI can deliver.

They don’t come more seasoned than Corabi and with a wide repertoire of rock ‘n’ roll at his disposal, this will be a unique insight into one of the biggest and most recognisable voices in rock ‘n’ roll.

SOILWORK Announce November 2022 Australian Tour

Sweden’s melodic death metal veterans SOILWORK are set to return to Australia this November courtesy of Hardline Media and they will be armed with their latest album Övergivenheten.

Övergivenheten is Soilwork’s latest masterpiece, their first studio album in 3 years, and the follow-up to Verkligheten, will be released on August 19th via Nuclear Blast Records.

SOILWORK has evolved both musically and lyrically and Övergivenheten is
their most complex and elaborate album to date. The album represents a new phase of their career which is marked by a time period that probably no one on this planet will quickly forget. The amazing results provided on Övergivenheten, shows a band that not only worked incredibly hard on producing such a stunning album but one that reflects years of development and experience as a band.

SOILWORK comments on Övergivenheten:
The title track of this album just might be the pinnacle of this band’s musical journey – it sums up everything that we’ve ever been about and the sometimes-risky musical venture that this band embarked on some 20 years ago. To us this song is as close to the heart as it gets

Additionally, the band announced that Rasmus Ehrborn has officially joined as the new bass player at the beginning of this year, which makes the SOILWORK line-up complete and ready again to capture the stages around the world!

On the back of the album, Australia welcomes back SOILWORK for a National Tour in November 2022. After their highly successful 2019 tour

The tour will start off in Perth, before heading through Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and then end in Brisbane, playing songs from the new album Övergivenheten, as well as all the classics from their long and illustrious career.

Enter Shikari (UK) Announce Australian November 2022 Tour With Special Guests Creeper (UK) and Windwaker (AUS)

Enter: full-blown excitement, with avant-garde UK rockers ENTER SHIKARI today announcing a run of Australian shows this November, with some very special guests: fellow English groundbreakers Creeper and Aussie metallers Windwaker.

“Australia was the last tour we did before the pandemic started, so shows have remained fresh in my memory throughout these difficult last few years. When our tours were constantly being cancelled and the band fell dormant, it was that mad run that gave me comfort – knowing that we went out on a high. To now finally have the chance to return and build on what those shows started is exciting me no end.” says Rou Reynolds, Enter Shikari

Since forming back in 2003, ENTER SHIKARI have gone on to release six full-length albums while garnering ongoing industry acclaim, and multiple awards for good measure. And armed with high-octane lashings of punk, electronica and alt rock palettes alongside personal lyricism and oft-politically charged thematics, ENTER SHIKARI continue to be one of the most magnetic forces in the modern musical landscape.

With supports alongside The Prodigy, Linkin Park and 30 Seconds To Mars under their collective belts over the years as well as an eye-watering amount of shows on every sized stage imaginable across the globe, the band closed out 2021 with an extensive tour in the UK; a completely sold-out affair, including a fourth headline show at London’s 10,000 capacity Alexandra Palace. 2022 will see ENTER SHIKARI throw down in North America, Germany and, of course, here in Australia, with a huge assortment of big-name festival appearances also on the cards.

While the band’s most recent album, 2020’s Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible, tantalised with its “unruly genius” (NME), cohesive direction and unbridled innovation, ENTER SHIKARI certainly aren’t resting on any laurels, with some telling social media posts of late hinting that the band are holed up in the English countryside conjuring new music.

A band who crawl deeper into your soul with each listen, Southampton heroes CREEPER initially drew together over a mutual love of hardcore, punk and glam rock stylings. A fantastical and refreshing amalgamation of lush brawn, oozing elegance and immersive storytelling, CREEPER continue to be one of the UK’s most exciting entities.

Built on a desire to inject fantasy and flamboyancy into punk rock back in 2014, CREEPER‘s self-titled EP released that same year instantly snapped heads, cultivating an instant fervent fan-base (aka the Creeper Cult) and leading to a double 2016 award whammy, snagging a Kerrang! Award for Best British Newcomer as well as Metal Hammer Golden Gods’ Best New Band award.

CREEPER‘s debut full-length album Eternity, In Your Arms only heightened the feverish buzz surrounding the group, with the 2017 release debuting at #1 in the UK Rock & Metal Albums Chart, and in the top 20 of the UK Albums Chart; a rare feat for any band, let alone one on their maiden album unveiling. Over the years CREEPER have continued to reinvent and refine their trademark sonic hues, leading to their 2020 Brit-pop-tinged sophomore album Sex, Death & the Infinite Void and a fifth EP, Sounds from the Void, unveiled just last year.

Never ones to play it safe, yet ones who eternally make any listener feel simultaneously invited and emphatically charged, a CREEPER live show is one equally as memorable as their music, with a touring rapsheet with Black Veil Brides, Funeral For A Friend, Misfits and countless others.

WINDWAKER have built an empire over the years based around explosive innovation and scintillating contrasts. Most recently in possession of their debut full-length album Love Language, WINDWAKER wrestle and reflect on the unpredictable nature of love across a super-charged twelve tracks, ultimately gifting rabid chaos flexed with glistening melodics and a staggering display of the band’s measured progression since first emerging back in 2017.

The recent album was met with resounding critical acclaim, including a perfect 10/10 rating from Wall Of Sound, saying: “Windwaker have done a lot of growing over the past few years, and their hard work and creativeness has paid off tenfold. It’s almost hard to believe this is their debut album because it is so well constructed and executed. The peaks and troughs of this album are subtle perfection…if Love Language doesn’t launch their career internationally, I’ll riot.

Hailing from Wagga Wagga in New South Wales, the WINDWAKER burgeoning legacy was first forged via the group’s earlier EPs, 2017’s Fade and 2019’s Empire, with the latter boasting the breakout tracks Colourless and My Empire, which each hit 850k streams on Spotify. After inking a deal with Fearless Records, the band ferociously built towards their debut full-length opus, with a sturdy live show reputation also forming in their wake courtesy of previous headline tours, support slots with the likes of Beartooth and many more on the horizon.

As their 2022 album title Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible suggests, the dream to have ENTER SHIKARI back on Australian shores has gone from possible to guaranteed; don’t miss these meteroic nights of blistering beauty this November.
