|Years in the planning, today marks the release of the much-anticipated album, Jason Owen Sings John Denver: the 20th Anniversary, out via Social Family Records and in-store and online now, with Owen hitting the road in October for a run of shows, concluding at The Studio, Sydney Opera House on Sunday, 5 November.
Since the classic Annie’s Song launched Owen as a contestant on X Factor in 2012, he knew it would only be a matter of time before he recorded a full tribute album to not only one of his, but his much beloved pop’s, favourite artist’s. With his pop’s health on the decline and the 20th anniversary of the legend’s passing, Jason knew there was no better time than now.
“I can’t believe the day has finally arrived. I couldn’t be more proud of this album and I hope everyone who hears it loves it as much as I loved singing every song on the record. I did my best to stay true to John’s unique creativity, while putting my own touch on each track – I think he’d be pretty happy with the results,” says Owen, adding, “and so is Pop!”
One of the best-selling artists of the 70s, John Denver was more than just a country music singer. He was outspoken on politics, an environmentalist and a humanitarian. Rather than putting the big smoke on a pedestal, Denver praised the virtues of country living, one most Australian country music fans can connect with.
Packed with songs that made Denver a household name, Owen’s exceptional vocals genuinely shine, perfectly capturing the soul of John Denver’s music. It’s a fitting tribute, each track mixed to honour one of country music’s most successful artists. A labour of love, Jason Owen Sings John Denver: the 20th Anniversary was produced by Bry Jones and features the beautiful voice of special guest, Chelsea Basham, on backing vocals.

Born and bred in the small town of Albert, 150km west of Dubbo, Jason was raised to the tune of classic country artists. After being launched into the Australian music scene as runner up of X Factor in 2012, Jason has continued to grow into a genuine country artist. A national tour with country music darling Amber Lawrence, an appearance by iconic Indigenous entertainer Christine Anu on his single Proud and his nomination for New Oz Artist of the Year at the 2017 CMC Awards have cemented his growing reach in the industry he loves. This year continues his rise with the release of his John Denver tribute album and trialling for the Australian clay trap shooting team for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
