John Corabi: “We’re extremely excited and proud of ‘LIVE & LOUDER’! A lot of the fans have been writing to us and saying how much they LOVED our records but were even more blown away by the band live. The album shows the world how truly loud and supportive The Dead Daisies fans are! Turn It Up!!!!”
Now when one of the world’s most sensational rock bands considers the market reaction to their recordings in balance with what they see before them stage front, the resulting decision is scarcely a surprise. What is a most welcome surprise is just how much live energy can be captured on a recording for us to relive again and again. Recorded during the bands Nov/Dec 2016 UK & European Tour and mixed by Anthony Focx this collection is way north of incredible and the one album YOU MUST HAVE. Fans will be more appreciative of the care and attention that has gone into every component of this work resulting in a veritable resurrection of a live performance witnessed, right down to the goose bumps.
The lead into Long Way To Go accompanied by a screaming crowd sets the scene to perfection by building frantic anticipation, expectations of rock magnificence and envious fist pumps fueled by the outrage that I wasn’t there. This remains constant through Mexico but the energy and excitement in you continues to build in appreciation for how truly magnificent The Dead Daisies are, along with how this is your new favorite record. By the time John introduces Make Some Noise we are helpless to resist, we are involved as an integral component of the celebration.
This album is something utterly extraordinary. I have listened through many times now and am trying desperately to write an overview rather than a ‘track by track’ typical of new collection, but I simply can’t help it. Every track sounds so utterly sensational I find myself pausing to try and write something that will provide some semblance of the experience to expect and give a fair impression of the experience lying in wait for the wise. I will try harder not to pause track by track and describe the excitement with each track.
Well, that didn’t last long. Song and a Prayer followed by Fortunate Son, both performed like you have been listening in analog your entire life and have just been plugged into digital and turned up to eleven. Unbelievable and unforgettable.
I know I will not be alone in a personal celebration and an ‘oh hell yeah’ to accompany the first single from 2013 ‘Lock ‘n’ Load’, the one that started it all for so many.
Last Time I Saw The Sun kicks off with some magical guitar work from Doug Aldrich himself before belting into the track in earnest. Words cannot describe the feeling pumping through my veins at this point born of live rock brilliance.
Nope, that’s it. Mere words are not enough. Join Together is where I lose my proverbial, throw my hands in the air with eyes shut and just soak up the live show as so warmly invited in the timeless lyrics.
This collection is 16 songs of ‘unbelievably brilliant’ spread over a variety of live performances, culminating in Midnight Moses in Munich. Then the realization hits that with the culmination of experience and sensational talent, The Dead Daisies are this magnificent every show, every tour, every time.
But wait because there’s more. It’s time for some up close and intimate acoustic performances via the bonus tracks. You can feel the people next to you, and even ‘that dude’ brushing past you trying to juggle four pints, spilling a decent glob down your dacks, but you care not a jot as TDD crank into American Band. Such brilliant inclusions to complete this remarkable collection. You genuinely feel just as close, blessed and comfortable as you would expect at an acoustic club set from The Dead Daisies. Maggie May, Ramble On and My Generation are performed in a way that will redefine your ears expectations and become your favorite versions. Unbelievable…really! Until you hear all of this together, you will not appreciate how superb this set really is. And just so it’s said, the seething, heaving horde of grooving air guitarists accompanying Marco in bass slapping during My Generation, might just throw the earth off its axis.
Since David Lowy started this project in 2012 there have been a string of fantastic protagonists, each sprinkling their own special brilliance on this phenomenal project, but this recording is a testament to the extremely special nature of the current line up and the projects overall heritage.
When you feel your jaw hitting the floor even after 200 listens, don’t come to me bitching that I didn’t try to tell you!
Unbelievable work. Recording, mixing, performing and bringing music to life, all truly unbelievable. When anticipating this album I did not expect something of this immeasurable brilliance. I expected awesome music played live and recorded, I got music brought to life and The Dead Daisies playing for me and my friends in my lounge room….no one was sitting down.
