On March 17th Andy Black announced to the world the title of what would be his first solo album The Shadow Side which would be scheduled to hit the world on May 6.
The lead single, We Don’t Have To Dance was released on March 18th with a music video for the song released on March 21st. It became such a massive hit, that it was used in the 2016 WWE 2016 Payback as the theme song. The label who works beside Andy is Republic Records.
Andy Black, the young 25-year-old has sure come a long way from his Andy Sixx days and is formally now known as the heart-throb and front man of Black Veil Brides. Andy Biersack took this project on to try a new sound for himself, something he wouldn’t want to try with Black Veil Brides.
If you love the heavy sound of Black Veil Brides, then this album might not be your style. Although I would recommend just giving it a listen for Andy’s sake. Alongside Andy on this album is a long list of guest appearances by all your favourites from the rock scene. Having said that, the album is still more than worth a listen with a number of great songs. Track 6, Beautiful Pain is both a touching and beautiful heartfelt song written by Andy for his friend Chris Holley, who sadly passed away last year in 2015.
All in all listening to this album makes you really feel the emotions Andy unleashes with this heartfelt album.
Homecoming King – the slow beat of the drums carries you through the song as, what same may say, his better half, Juliet Simms meets you with her soft and beautiful voice. When the two singers get together it makes you feel like you are dancing at your own homecoming
We Don’t Have To Dance – No surprise here. This is one of my favourites and if you watched this music video and connected with the music, then you wouldn’t be blamed if you thought you had stepped into an old 60 movie with the black and white. It has an amazingly fun beat and both the music and music video capture the eyes and ears of the people with that one capturing vocal line “It was nice to meet you let’s never meet again”
Rib Cage – This song is by far another, possibly even my top favourite on this album. It’s fun, has an amazing beat and makes it impossible to just sit there and not at least tap your toe while it plays. Again this song features the young and skilful Juliet.
Stay Alive – featuring Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio / Blink 182. It is a piece about personal loss. Full of lush harmonies and poignant lyrics, this is a track that is very relatable and heartfelt. All about pushing through and carrying on, even when it gets hard. It is a song that is sure to touch some fans in one way or another.
Love Was Made To Break – is about giving up on love and that while going through that process deciding that it is actually made to break. and once it is broken, it is too damn late to pick up what’s left.
Put The Gun Down – Full of powerful vocals and touching music, all coming together to tell the story that it doesn’t always have to be this way.
Drown Me Out – The fast beat at the start makes this yet another of my favourites on this album. Every word puts a picture in my head like I’m living in my own awesome music video.
Paint It Black – This Song is yet another beautiful piece by the man himself that can be interpreted into how one can make it through anything they put their mind to.
Break Your Halo – As the songs go on, Andy seems as though he can’t let down, and seems to make each song even more powerful as the last. As this song seems to feel and say “I’ll be the light when the waves come crashing down around and that If I could change this life to make it better I would.”
Louder Than Your Love – This feels as though every single person who had a part in this song had a lot of fun. Super Fun upbeat song with a bouncing tempo, I can’t sit still while typing. Fun
Broken Pieces – This song gives off particularly a sombre mood but definitely highlights emotions that were felt in earlier tracks that Andy never fails to show and give us.
The Void – This song is personal to me and seems to reach in and grab at me in every way possible. The words, the music and the vocals themselves are just beautiful and all in all, it’s a lovely song. One I really enjoy listening to.
Fans all over the world were keen to find when he would make his first solo tour around the world Australia can catch the man himself this month as he tours.
