This album bears the perfect title as it appears on face value, with the success of previous works considered, that the current members have settled into the framework and have been quite literally unleashed. Have reached far beyond previous accomplishments and produced a supremely exciting, and somewhat uplifting album.
John, Korey, Jen and Seth have obviously worked hard to advance and evolved into current form resulting in the ensemble striking upon gold with Unleashed. Whether the spoils be metaphorical or realised in shining reward, remains to be seen. But this collection leaves me in no doubt which it should be.
One can sit back and pluck the most probable influences from contemporary music, but the most exciting aspect of this entire collection is the successful blending of genres, styles and instrumental accompaniment into one of the most exciting and polished products I have ever heard.
Feel Invincible opens the collection brilliantly due largely to the relatively soft introduction, easing us into the album but with a characteristic and exciting undertow of an impending explosion into m musical celebration. The song does exactly as the title promises, but with a quite restrained blending, resulting in a masterful elicitation of a genuine feeling of exhilaration in anticipation for the tracks to follow. This is, of course, a willing choice for the listener, given you are now master of your emotions, feeling all invincible and all.
Back From The Dead drives us forward through the track with a distinctive rock atmosphere driven by more hooks than your average angler could possibly manage. Catchy as can be with soaring guitar and sensationally matched vocal delivery. Conversely Stars softens the delivery into a blissfully delivered ballad providing a magnificent ebb and flow to accompany the lyrical content. Veritably bursting in intensity and genuine appeal throughout driving toward a splendid drum crescendo. I Want To Live provides a genuine highlight for fans of Skillet by means of incredibly powerful instrumental accompaniment, sensationally constructed solos, and vocals delivered to perfection as our protagonists soar, lyrically entwined in a blissful ballet of soulful melodic magnificence. Absolutely certain to be a hit and expand the Skillet fan following exponentially.
Undefeated will challenge the senses in sensational form as the brilliant drum work will have you helpless to mosh along. Go on, give it a try… Try and sit still during this tremendous song. If the drums don’t get you the guitars sure will. Rhythmic excellence and beautifully assembled. Oh yeah, and then there’s the lyrics. Wow.
From here on in the highlights just keep coming with tracks like Out Of Hell, Burn It Down and Saviours Of The World certain to keep the fold flocking back and the most discerning of music lovers acutely engaged.
Absolutely fantastic album, rich with highlights and memorable moments. Enough stimuli in content for more than a few profound realisations and musically quite heterogeneous. Superbly written, performed, mixed and produced
