Against the Current is a band I had never heard of until now and I am rather sorry I haven’t. Their new album In Our Bones has a lot of fun and catchy tunes.
Against The Current formed in 2011 in Poughkeepsie, New York. and members consist of vocalist, Chrissy Costanza, guitarist, Dan Gow and drummer, Will Ferri. Their label is Fueled by Ramen (Warner)
In Our Bones was released on May 20, 2016. Prior to this the band had released their debut EP, Infinity in 2014. and then we had the pleasure of having the next EP, Gravity which was released on February 17, 2015 which included a guest appearance from Taka of One OK Rock on the song ‘”Dreaming Alone“
After the Glamour Kills Spring Break ’15 tour, the band locked themselves inside the studio to record their debut full-length album, In Our Bones which was to be released in early 2016. The young group of talented musicians are a talented group indeed, with Chrissy Costanza on vocals with a fun and energetic voice. Will Ferri sitting at the drums creates a beat that makes it hard not to move along to and let’s not forget Dan Gow over on guitar helping balance out this fun group of young people with his uplifting bouncy shreds.
Running With The Wild Things – The first song on the album. Now for a band I had never heard of until now, this song sure did grab me from start to finish it was fun catchy and had a beat that was more than easy to sing along to.
Forget Me Now – This would have to be one of the ones I like the most. It has that fun, pop, punk vibe and was one song I was able to learn the lyrics to very quickly and found it rather easy to sing along to.
Chasing Ghosts – This song makes you feel like you’re watching two people intertwine as one as they move together on the dance floor.
One More Weekend – Much like Chasing Ghosts, this is another of those other songs that your find it hard not to bop along to. With the great bounce with the drums and melody of the guitar all coming together with that fun voice of Chrissy.
In Our Bones – While one of the slower and less bouncy ones In Our Bones is still a great song. Again I feel compelled to mention the way Chrissy’s voice and the music flow together flawlessly
Young & Relentless – Right off the bat the drumming in this song is the stand out and is amazing. It really really grabs at you and it will make you feel like you’re on the ride of your life.
Runaway – Against the Current never fail to bring that POP feel to each song. Every song is fun, there isn’t really any other way to say it other than to give them a listen and see for yourself. The song Runaway is yet one of those songs I found it hard to not get carried away in singing along to.
Brighter – It feels like the band are trying to get the message across that it’s a new a day and to keep fighting for what you want. That is going to be a roller-coaster ride and that what you want is worth fighting for. Just Awesome
Wasteland – One of the other slower ones from the album but still so easily able to draw the listener in to make them feel like they are in a different world.
Blood Like Gasoline – This song gives the feeling of temptation. That you might be in a nightclub / concert and everyone on the dance floor but your eyes are only on that one person. Almost stalking in nature, as you watch them move to the music and that you know they are bad for you but the fire draws you in wanting more.
As the album moves along it feels like you are going on a journey with the band. There are highs and lows as there is with any journey as your progress through the album the deeper into the journey you go.
Roses – The music matches this song perfectly helping carry the voice of Chrissy as you feel the heart break of this song about trying to move on after waiting all night for someone that was never going to come.
Demons – The last song on this album and they didn’t fail to bring it to an amazing ending to such a great album. The name says it all, about having those toxic things taking hold of you and that your fighting for what you worked for.
For me this is one album I will be getting and it will be one you’re going to want to put on repeat the album is out now so go and do yourself a favor and grab one.
This whole album was just a lot of fun to listen to and it’s sure clear this group of fun young people really enjoyed making this album and I know that a lot of people will be looking forward to seeing what comes next from this group. Well done!
