Shawn Patrick Stockman is an American R&B singer, best known as a member of the vocal group Boyz II Men.

We recently got to chat with Shawn regarding their up coming tour to Australia

STM: With 64 million albums sold worldwide, Boyz II Men is the best selling R&B group of all time. What is your secret?

SS: It really comes down to a core philosophy- as artists, we are committed to making timeless music, we are willing to work hard, and everything we do is for the fans. That’s how we’ve always approached our careers and I think the industry and the fans have responded to that. We don’t take success for granted, and I think that has absolutely contributed to our success.

Many say BIIM pioneered the R&B / Acapella genre back into the mainstream in the 1990s and also inspired many an artist such as Justin Timberlake, Usher and Beyonce to name a few. How does that make you feel and who would you say inspired or continued to inspire you throughout your career?

We weren’t first R&B group and we won’t be the last- but to hear that we helped popularize the genre is always such high praise. We have had some really incredible artists- everyone from Justin Beiber to Justin Timberlake name us as influences and it’s rewarding for us to  hear that we have had an impact on music that way.

2012 saw BIIM receive a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. Being such a monumental moment in your career, how did it feel to receive this recognition?

It was truly an honor to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It was definitely one of our highest achievements, but we wouldn’t have been able to do it if it wasn’t for our amazing fans.

The music industry can be a fickle industry for any artist. Has there ever been a time where you thought it was all over for Boyz II Men?

We have definitely had our ups and downs, but I never thought it would end. I knew we all wanted to continue to create music and share it with the fans.

Everyone who knows of BIIM knows that at a live show you hand out roses to the ladies during the song “I’ll make love to you” Who came up with this idea and what was the story/reason behind it?

Back in the ‘90s Nate’s brother had the great idea to do something special for the ladies!

Can we expect the same treatment for our Aussie gal’s?

Of course, we always have a few romantic surprises up our sleeves!

Over the past 20 plus years, how have you seen your audience grow and change?

Our fans have been amazing and have grown up with us. Today, with our residency at The Mirage in Las Vegas, we are able to see fans from across the globe and hear how Boyz II Men played a special role in their life. It is a truly amazing experience to connect with our fans who have been listening to our music from our first album, Cooleyhighharmoney to our latest album (released Fall 2014) that features a new sound, Collide.

In a few months when you head to our shores, is there anything you’d like to experience while here that you haven’t been able to on previous trips?

I definitely want to head to the Sydney Opera House since it is such an iconic musical spot.

Lastly, is there a message you would like to share with your Australian fans before your arrival in October?
