The eagerly anticipated latest release from Kamelot is due to hit our shelves on May 8th, 2015 thanks to Napalm Records and quite frankly, Haven is all fans could possibly hope for and much more.
Tommy Karevik continues his successful reign at the helm of the Kamelot, leading us on a melodic melancholic journey thought a world driven far from the confines of sanity. Madness prevails in this musical landscape of beautiful and insane symbiosis.
Opening track Fallen Star provides the familiar sound of symphonic power metal with that distinct medieval feel and wraps us warm in the wings of fantasy from the outset and flows powerfully into Insomnia increasing the listeners curiosity accompanied by a distinct feeling of foreboding.
The listener is led along a twisting dark cavernous journey of melodic mystery in the introduction of Citizen Zero before arriving, albeit cautiously with a distinct feeling of trepidation into the vast expansive cave that is the body of the track.
Magnificent guitar work and tremendously powerful melodies accompany the dynamic lyrics and vocals. Oliver Palotai provides brilliant keyboard mastery, but with a distinct malevolent sound accompanying the storyline to perfection.
Long time drummer Casey Grillo is simply astounding in his percussive excellence, often at a blistering pace. Thomas Youngblood is equally amazing with his guitar and backing vocals providing the essential metal soul to this collection of works. Thomas is a founding member of the band whose mastery seems to improve further and further with each release.
Guests artists on the recording Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), Troy Donockley (Nightwish) and Charlotte Wessels (Delain) do not lend their services wantonly or frivolously. They provide a most exciting and fitting dimension with their contribution to this masterpiece of melodic fantasy.
This entire work is equally as mysterious, beautiful, exciting, malevolent and awe inspiring as the album artwork.
An absolute must.
